My adult daughter (health is vulnerable ) has just taken my 12 year old to the corner shop to get some cordial to help with her period pains.(?) She plans to send the very sensible 12 year old into the shop by herself .How would you feel about this? I want to pick my arguments at the moment. Thanks

I would have said the adult with vulnerable health should have stayed at home and the sensible 12 year old could have gone to the corner shop alone.

Also, I don't think cordial will help with period pain.

I don't think I'd have a row about it though.

chantico · 01/04/2020 13:48

Yes a 12 yo should be one to enter a shop to make an essential purchase.

But wouldn't they be better off with a chemist's?

Peppafrig · 01/04/2020 13:52

Since when does cordial help with period pains? I would tell the 12 year old to go herself .

Thankyou all for replying with your view points!

If it is just cordial and not a typo, there is no reason the 12 year old couldn't go by herself. I would let my 12 year old go to the local shop by himself.
Can't see how cordial will help though, and if that's a typo and it's actually medication she needs, she probably won't be allowed to buy it.

NorthernSpirit · 01/04/2020 14:21

FSG..... a 12 YO can independently go to the shop on their own.

GrumpyHoonMain · 01/04/2020 14:24

The 12 yo should be going to the shops alone.

Gillian1980 · 01/04/2020 14:27

The 12 year old can go alone.
However, I wouldn’t really be popping to the shop just for cordial.... I’d wait until a proper shop was due.

Dragongirl10 · 01/04/2020 14:35

no one needs cordial!!! Shopping should be planned carefully for proper food or absolute emergencies as infrequently as possible.

Peiod pain is not an emergency

Cordial is essential for anything.

Are you not worried about this unneccessary trip to a high risk environment?

Hoppinggreen · 01/04/2020 14:38
  1. If adult daughter is vulnerable due to health she shouldn’t go out at all
  2. 12 year old is perfectly capable of going into a shop
  3. Cordial doesn’t help period pains
miccymaccy · 01/04/2020 14:41

Yes a 12 year old can go to shop by themselves in normal circumstances.

But at the moment I'm keeping mine at home as I don't want them accidentally picking CV up or giving it to someone.

Shopping is being done by adults only and in a big batch.

So in short I'd be furious if someone sent my 12yo out for cordial. Risk to her health and others over an unnecessary item.

Snowflakes1122 · 01/04/2020 14:41

I wouldn’t be happy either of them going to the shops just for cordial! Hardly worth the risk if you have a vulnerable person in the household.

JustStayAtHome · 01/04/2020 14:41

nothing in this scenario is essential though!!!

twinkletits99 · 01/04/2020 14:42

Cordial for period pain? That's a new one 😁 12 year old can go to shops on their own but I wouldn't send for cordial as it's not essential in the slightest.

Mysocalledlifexx · 01/04/2020 14:43

I wouldnt let my 12 year old go alone, also its a no no when this is going on.

whitesoxx · 01/04/2020 14:47

Nobody should be going to the shop just to buy cordial.

Anotheruser02 · 01/04/2020 14:47

So to avoid catching the virus in the shop she is sending her sibling in and then driving(?) sibling home again?

Does she not realise she is taking the same risk as if she had gone in herself? Does she have a very large vehicle where sibling will be 2 meters away from her on the way home?

Spied · 01/04/2020 14:48

I'd not be happy with 12yo going to the shop alone whilst we are living this pandemic.I think an adult is more aware of touching, social distancing etiquette etc...
I'd certainly not be happy with adult DD either going to the shop or using 12yo to go in.
Imo she should have waited to see if you were going to be getting any shopping and if not then she should have done without.

RedskyAtnight · 01/04/2020 14:50

The 12 year old should do essential shopping rather than the vulnerable adult.

Cordial is not an essential shop.

If the 12 year old is able to walk to the shop then the period pains can't be that bad to require venturing out.

MaidenMotherCrone · 01/04/2020 16:02

At 12 I was doing the weekly shopping for a family of 8. Fucking hated it! At 12 she's perfectly able to buy a bottle of magic squash!

QuixoticQuokka · 01/04/2020 16:05

A 12 year old can go to the shop alone. Though is there not another treat they already have in the house to distract the child from the pain?

CoronaIsShit · 01/04/2020 16:07

No way would I let a 12 year old go to a shop in the situation we are in today. They are not going to be as aware of contamination risks as an adult! No worth the risk of bringing the virus home especially with a vulnerable person in the house.

Similar aged children have died of this.

oneboy3girls · 01/04/2020 20:02

It's the adult that had the period pain, not the 12 year old.

Hoppinggreen · 01/04/2020 20:28

Either way they won’t be cured with cordial
