Children complaining of sore eyes?

Whitefeather01 · 01/04/2020 03:25

My children are (very almost) 5, and 6.5 and for the last week have been complaining of sore eyes, on and off. They also have coughs. One had a temp for a day and they've also had colds.

I've had a nasty cough, but wouldn't necessarily say it was dry, a weird taste in my mouth and what now feels like the beginning of a sore throat.

Suspicious or normal for their symptoms?

This may or may not apply to your children but my DS has started to complain about sore eyes and stuffy nose this week. The hay fever (tree pollen) season has started, he was the same last year.

Elliebobtail · 01/04/2020 04:06

My daughter has too. She is constantly blinking! My first thought was hay fever.

Monty27 · 01/04/2020 04:10

I have Hayfever. Yes tree pollen. Not coronavirus. I managed to grab antihistamine. They need it straight away. It's very unpleasant. Flowers

LynetteScavo · 01/04/2020 04:49

They're young to get hay fever. Have they been outside much?

Monty27 · 01/04/2020 05:29

@LynetteScavo my ds was quite ill.with Hayfever in junior school, It affected his whole wellbeing. He was about 7yo. It took a very long time to grasp it.

LynetteScavo · 01/04/2020 07:10

My DD started with hay fever aged 7 too. I've read it doesn't usually start before the age of 7yo. We went for a walk last Wednesday and she started to complain about her hay fever. I was surprised as she usually suffers the most in June. The OPs symptoms do sound a bit CV.

How are you today @Whitefeather01 ?

MaryShelley1818 · 01/04/2020 07:39

My DS has started saying he has sore eyes or sticky eyes a lot over the past week or so. He's only 2 and has hardly been outside.

QueenofmyPrinces · 01/04/2020 07:44

I’ve had really sore eyes for about 4 days now. It constantly feels like there is something in them and I can’t stop rubbing at them. I’ve also got a runny nose and keep sneezing.

I don’t have hay fever. It’s strange.

flatoutpanic · 01/04/2020 07:45

Hay fever season has definitely started and my eyes are sore.

However, a GP on the news was saying that they have had a rise in symptoms such as loss of sense of smell and taste, and conjunctivitis. He was implying they may be very mild CV symptoms.

Marieo · 01/04/2020 07:46

It could be, I would isolate just in case, especially with the fever as well.

inwood · 01/04/2020 07:54

My hay fever and Dts has definitely kicked in. They have had it from a very young age.

The rest of your symptoms should trigger self isolation.

SavoyCabbage · 01/04/2020 07:57

Hay fever always starts at Mother's Day when you have a bunch of flowers!

Jessbow · 01/04/2020 08:14

Could be hay fever, but could be a reaction to all the anti bac spray thats being used everywhere,

Toybox88 · 01/04/2020 08:37

My Dd started hayfever symptoms at age 5

FourCandelabras · 01/04/2020 08:43

I think it might also be due to being stuck inside with the heating on - and no rain for ages. The air is so dry, dries our eyes and skin and sinuses...

chocolatviennois · 01/04/2020 08:50

Cough, temperature, sore throat, loss of taste and sore eyes are all corona symptoms. A cold isn’t. I think there is a chance your family has Coronavirus.
