Coronavirus & dementia

FIL has all the symptoms of coronavirus - persistent cough, high temperature etc. He is 68 & otherwise fit & healthy. He is at home & self-medicating with paracetamol, self-isolating. SIL lives 1 mile away & is leaving shopping on doorstep.

Where it gets complicated is that FIL is the main carer for MIL. She is 71, has moderate vascular dementia & cannot care for herself. She needs constant supervision as she has wandered off once before, not knowing where she was (at home of 50 years). She is not coping well with his illness.

DH wants to go up & stay with them to help care for both. We live 120 miles away. I would be heartbroken, particularly as DS2, with ASC, has his birthday next week & would not understand where Daddy is & why. We also have DS 11 & 6. I think he would be gone at least 3 weeks - 2 weeks isolation plus a further week if he catches it, which seems likely. However, if the best thing is for DH to go, I would manage. I would have to.

Is it permitted to travel that distance to care for somebody? Are there any other options? Anything I haven't considered? I feel so awful Sad
