Schools are still responsible for all safeguarding issues concerning their students during term times.

AvoidingRealHumans · 31/03/2020 20:05

I've had no calls- 2 in primary. Did have a message from one teacher on friday evening, I thought she was wondering why I hadn't submitted any work that day but she was just checking we were ok as she hadn't heard from us and said not to worry about the work the main this is we are ok along with some other nice sentiments. I was already stressed and emotional and her kind words made me cry.

Iwantedthat · 31/03/2020 20:09

Had a call yesterday from primary school, and high school is in touch daily, all different teachers, form teacher about twice a week, and head of year sending messages about keeping mentally well, physically fit etc and some quizzes to beat boredom if needed.

Iwantedthat · 31/03/2020 20:10

All on then class charts app I meant to add for high school, where all the work is set too, and he is able to contact his class teachers by email

Batmanandbobbin · 31/03/2020 20:16

I’ve had no calls for either school aged children one secondary one primary. However, my secondary school is going to see each child once a week - different staff each day knock on door wave through window. And call daily for those who are classes vulnerable.

CasparBloomberg · 31/03/2020 20:16

Our State primary are calling every family once per week. Checking on health of child/family and how they are getting on accessing the work online, any questions we want to ask, how things are going, explaining bits about the work set, that kind of thing. I think it’s nice and DD got to speak to her teacher and say hi today and she really liked that.

Batmanandbobbin · 31/03/2020 20:16

Classed as

Batmanandbobbin · 31/03/2020 20:18

My secondary school I work in... I apologise I am jibbery today

Sharkyfan · 31/03/2020 20:18

First call today for eldest (secondary)
Younger 2 (primary) no calls yet but they’ve said they will start doing this and check in every fortnight

MrsChoc · 31/03/2020 20:20

Ours are calling everyone this week (primary) really friendly call just to see how you’re getting on and answer questions

livingthegoodlife · 31/03/2020 20:20

Daily "chatty" style email and then a fortnightly phone call. Primary school.

KoalasandRabbit · 31/03/2020 20:22

All kids in our school are getting an e-mail this week, if they don't reply, they get a call on Friday. Would imagine ones on their safeguarding list are getting more which probably includes SN kids. I've got one with SN, wish them luck getting him to communicate but I offered to message senco each day - not sure how often supposed to update but we enjoy chatting anyway so fine.

Sockbogies · 31/03/2020 20:23

Getting absolutely nothing. School work set has comprised of a generic set of 13 slides for the whole school,, nothing year or age specific. Lots and lots of links on the slides to hundreds of sites, which weve attempted to wade through but without any kind of topic, method, etc, it’s incredibly unhelpful. Really disappointed to have had zero contact (and there are two teachers for the two year groups, so you’d hope that between them they could at least add something relevant to what the children were learning before school closed?). DD misses school dreadfully and the silence has made this far worse.

Goingfarawsy · 31/03/2020 20:24

We are locked out of the system because of a forgotten password and have emailed and phoned several times with no response! So this is second week of no School work and not a peep from anyone!?

CaryStoppins · 31/03/2020 20:27

Is your child 'vulnerable'?

In my LA if we have a vulnerable child not attending a setting at all we're supposed to call regularly and try to persuade them to bring the child in. LA is checking on their attendance every day.

ChickLitLover · 31/03/2020 20:28

I got an email from my daughters primary, she’s year 6, saying they’d be calling all parents every week or two and that they will be asking to speak to the children. We’ve had one call so far, just a 5 minute chat about how we are and a little about the work set. The teacher also had a short conversation with our daughter. I think it’s good that they’re checking in.

I think the secondary school is doing the same but not for year 11’s which my son is... probably good they don’t call as he seems to be asleep most of the time. 🙄

Mummyoflittledragon · 31/03/2020 20:29

My dd is in secondary. She is receiving lessons through google classroom. Any queries she emails the teachers and they respond pretty well immediately. No phone contact. But she wouldn’t hit their radar. She’s doing fine.

Sockbogies
That sounds horrendous. The school has a duty to educate your dd. I take it this is primary. Have you contacted the school? Maybe you could get some tips from other parents?

bluechameleon · 31/03/2020 20:31

I teach at a special school and we are expected to contact every family daily via an app. If we don't get a response for 3 days a member of leadership will phone to check in. My son is in Reception year at a mainstream school and I have had no contact at all from his teacher, including no response to an email I sent a week ago.

Blueemeraldagain · 31/03/2020 20:32

The SEMH school I teach at asked us to call our tutor group members every day. Our maximum class size is 7 (I only have 3 in my year 11 class) so it’s not too arduous but after 3 days the plan was changed because parents felt “over-called” harassed So now SLT have decided to let the tutors and parent/carers work out an appropriate contact level. Why we couldn’t do that to begin with, I don’t know.

ExhaustedPigeon · 31/03/2020 20:33

We're calling all vulnerable children weekly, twice weekly or daily depending on their level of vulnerability. Also calling anyone who hasn't been in touch with us via the online learning portal we're using each week. We're not chasing work we just want to make sure everyone (parents and children) are coping OK.

PeterPiperPickedWrongAgain · 31/03/2020 20:35

Great, so my child- ASD/ADHD multiple pastoral visits for the last year, referrals to CAHMS 2 months ago,
GP emergency CAHMS referral 3 weeks before shut down following discussion with form
tutor .......... no contact.AT.ALL From anyone.
failed again, as per the last 14 years despite us repeatedly asking for help
I feel like we have failed as parents but we have been failed at every step ever since we have asked for help at 18 months old. He has constantly slipped through the system, why won’t anyone help him?

VividImagination · 31/03/2020 20:37

We’ve had no phone calls but ds has been submitting work each day, had two classes online and has emailed two different teachers with questions so they are probably fed up hearing from him! He has had two “how are you” emails From his head of year and one from his guidance teacher but they were “whole class” emails and he hasn’t responded.

HoffiCoffi13 · 31/03/2020 20:38

No calls here, although I’m aware they are telephoning vulnerable children weekly. We are being encouraged to engage via photos/updates etc on the online system.

CMOTDibbler · 31/03/2020 20:40

We've had nothing from school apart from a generic email yesterday to the whole school. DS has had a weeks worth of fairly general work in each subject - watch this documentary on Youtube kind of thing, or go on Memrise, and where work has been set, no marking or email acknowledging it

Comefromaway · 31/03/2020 20:43

No calls here but dh teaches at dd’s School & we live next door to a member of the SEN team at ds’s school (he has asd). She told us they are in daily phone contact with some children.
