Feeling like a bad mum?

Until coronavirus, I thought I was an ok mum. Not great, not bad, just kind of 'fine'.

Now I feel crap! Every day on TV and social media there's pictures and stories of children doing amazing home schooling - learning Spanish, home baking, doing maths challenges, conquering Everest (well, almost!).

I just feel so useless.

Today I felt quite good because I managed to get DC off their computers to have a 10 minute run round the block. Got home (looking like I'd been dragged through a bush and sweating like and onion!!) and on the TV was a beautiful lady, perfectly made-up, with a gorgeous house saying how after a whole day of 'home schooling' (cut to videos of her children sitting beautifully at the dining room table) she takes her children (who barely look old enough to be out of a buggy!) for a daily 5k! (Yes..daily!!! And yes...5k!!! not 5minutes ... 5k!)

I give up :( where did all these amazing perfect parents come from?

Anyone else feeling completely inadequate these last couple.of weeks?

I think I generally do ok but this situation is very very hard OP.

We limp through our day doing our best to try and get some school work done as well as all the other usual day to day stuff like getting food and prescriptions etc.

I'm hoping that next week when it's school holidays that we might actually have some time to do some nicer at home activities.

Well today we...

Did a family workout with Joe Wicks
Had a family Yoga session
Made paper airplanes and had a competition
Completed all the school work set for today
Had a picnic lunch with lots of fruit and veg

All pretty good.

What also happened was...

I got really cross as the little ones refused to join in with most of the workout.
Shouted at the older one for keep bashing into me during yoga.
There was lots of shouting, complaining, tears and tantrums about the school work.
All snacks were chocolate and biscuits.

People just show the perfect parts of their day.

Are they still alive?
Are they fed and watered?
If so, you're doing just fine.

I've literally just said to dh that we need to ease off the kids. They're still little but I've been trying to have a vague routine of a bit of writing / reading / number s type thing.

But tbh even that's been too much.

We've been trying joe wicks but my kids hate it.

I don't want them to look back at this period as being some really awful stress time so I'm just going to massively back off. I'll do some baking and fun stuff but otherwise I'm just going to start going with the flow a bit more.

Good luck!

"Everyone fed, no-one dead" is what we say. Honestly, that's a job well done. Tuck them in and give yourself wine a gold star.

My kids have barely looked at the homeschool packs, my eldest has lived in boxers for eight days and refuses to go outside and siestas his day away in between gaming, and today I chucked a few hot dogs in the vague direction of heir rooms as their lunch. Literally FUCK the perfection people try to portray. We were not trained or prepared for this shit

If your kids hated Joe Wicked (DD hissed at the telly, hurt herself 3 times, collapsed on the sofa and swore to never again) then maybe give this a go. If not for the exercise,at least for the giggles(especially if you join in).
