To go and sit in my car.

I'd rather go and sit in my car, than stay in the flat and having to endure listening to my neighbours music.

I have asked them not to do it, but they don't give a shit.
I am struggling.

I can not go out for a daily walk/ exercise/ food shopping as I have mobility issues.

Would sitting in my car be ok? I have to get through this somehow.

Of course it is. Sorry you have to though.

Youngatheart00 · 30/03/2020 21:27

Do you have some decent headphones to put on some calming music, an audiobook or a podcast?

pooopypants · 30/03/2020 21:31

Headphones on and watch random crap on YouTube?

AutumnRose1 · 30/03/2020 21:35

Of course it’s fine to sit in your car. Sorry you’re having to, though.

EasyTarget · 30/03/2020 21:49

That's good then. It feels like there's somewhere I can get some respite.

I am doing the headphones thing. Streaming gentle music or shows all day. I do that normally to get through, but all day everyday is a lot.

I usually go out and drive to a quiet countryside spot to get away from the noise, but obviously can't do that at the moment.

I know people are going through worse too.

What rubbish neighbours you have!!!

AutumnRose1 · 30/03/2020 21:52

OP I sympathise, I live in a block of flats. If people are noisy all day, it’s not great for your ears to wear earplugs all day. I have to wear them all night as it is.

VenusTiger · 30/03/2020 21:53

Yes, just don't car idle or you'll end up with a fine (and quite rightly so imo). Do you have any other neighbours who could also complain themselves?
Can you buy earplugs online and read or go about your day with them in? Also headphones for tablet/TV as pps have suggested above.

VenusTiger · 30/03/2020 21:54

Cross posted OP sorry!

goldenorbspider · 30/03/2020 21:58

I'm so sorry you've got such shitty neighbours. Can I recommend borrow box? I'm often found in my car staring into space listening to a good book

81Byerley · 30/03/2020 22:20

You poor thing. I really feel for you. My husband just bought himself noise cancelling headphones. He said they really work.

EasyTarget · 31/03/2020 00:21

I have some noise cancelling headphones and ear plugs but am struggling wearing them all day everyday. My ears need a rest!
An audiobook in the car sounds good.
I'll never understand why they do it, particularly in a lockdown situation.
They're top floor in the flat above me so no one else is connected to them except for me.
I shall be moving a soon as possible, but gotta get through lockdown first.

When I used to do the school run my car became a little sanctuary with thermos flask, hot water bottle, books, French language course, blanket, picnic hamper and sometimes the Ddog stretched out on the back seatSmile
I did get a sore right hip sometimes though from the small draught through the door and needed a cushion to prevent back ache.
Sorry you have to escape from the noise, hope you move to a peaceful home.

slipperywhensparticus · 31/03/2020 08:50

I think you could be fined if your car is idling? I dont think that's allowed even when we are not in lockdown...

Just sitting in the car is fine

burnoutbabe · 31/03/2020 08:52

I think a fine for having a car idling has has always existed? I remember it from the Highway Code. It's not a lockdown thing. And googled to check and it's correct, and were increased last summer.

Grobagsforever · 31/03/2020 15:44

@burnoutbabe yes - but OP wants to sit in a car, not switch the engine on!

EasyTarget · 31/03/2020 16:51

I won't be switching the engine on as I won't be going anywhere. That would just waste petrol, let alone the idling thing.
I'm just after a quiet space I can sit in.
I'm feeling a bit better today knowing I have an escape plan! I think things got on top of me a bit yesterday.

I really feel for you OP, I am in a similar position. My neighbour is fairly quiet in the daytime but I wake up most nights due to their TV or Radio even though I sleep in ear plugs now. They have only been in their flat just over a week and I've already asked them to turn it down. I'm due to move next Friday and am keeping my fingers crossed it can still go ahead as I can't put up with this for the next few months, especially when I have to work from home in the day time. I can't even find details of their landlord to complain to!

EasyTarget · 31/03/2020 20:11

I feel you Betty. I will keep my fingers crossed that your move goes ahead.

They ought to make blocks of flats for quiet people and blocks of flats for noisy people who like loud music/TV/gaming/parties.
