Could someone help calm my anxiety?

I suffer with anxiety and am on tablets for it just for context.
I'm aware that I might be catastrophising Sad

I'm really scared that if I catch Coronavirus I will die. The news is frightening me to death.

I'm technically in a risk group. My BMI is just on 40 (I've been trying to lose weight) I have PCOS and high blood sugar...I am pre diabetic.

I'm allowed to work from home and haven't been outside for 10 days.

I'm still too scared to go out.

If I caught coronavirus what would be the likelihood of severe complications or even death?

I have ok health apart from the above and I always recover quickly from a cold. Haven't had the flu in over 15 years.

I'm 37.

Well I'm fat and have it, had it mildly so far (day 12), although I don't have any other health issues

Keep safe. Don't take risks but being overly anxious won't help

I'm quite porky, but I'm trying to be careful and not worry too much. I have a Calm app on my phone (free version avaiable) that helps.

Have you been tested? What symptoms did you have and are still having? Take care x

I have high a BMI and after reading certain threads on here I’m convinced I’m going to die if I get it. It’s affected the way I eat now. My anxiety is through the roof. I’m only 38.

Smilebehappy123 · 30/03/2020 20:14

I'm same high BMI of 50. Not even sure I should be going work ??

Goatymcgoaty · 30/03/2020 20:21

BMI 39 here. I doubt the risk is hugely inflated to be honest, particularly as you’re on the limit of BMI 40.

I’m not sure if the risk is deemed higher just because of obesity per se. Risk would actually be higher if you have undiagnosed I medicated diabetes or high blood pressure, which often obese people have without knowing it.

Also BMI of 40 is an arbitrary limit. I’m sure that my BMI of 39 is not massively less risky, than if I was a few pounds heavier and tipped into BMI 40.

That’s the trouble with the “vulnerable” list. There is no risk weighting to the list of conditions that are deemed to make you at higher risk of complications. Heart disease and BMI are just two of a big list, but some of the things in the list are far far more likely to cause complications than others.

Goatymcgoaty · 30/03/2020 20:22

supposed to say unmedicated

AmelieTaylor · 30/03/2020 20:28

The issues you have (high BMI - mines higher, no judgement, & diabetes (I’m T2) do go against fighting this off. It’s true.

However, it seems diabetes is a risk more because it often indicates other issues (mainly heart problems) and because any illness makes diabetes worse, but being ore diabetic that’s really not such an issue.

Obesity is an issue because we are harder to ventilate & generally have fat around our internal organs

There’s no denying there’s a lot more risk if this making us very ill.

However, you’re young & fight colds off well. It’s a VERY long way from being certain you’d even end up in hospital, let alone die.

Please, the best thing you can do is eat the right things and go for a walk every day. Go the least buy route you can.

Take as many precautions as you’re prepared to, but stress is really bad for you, so try not to 🌷

I low carb to control my diabetes, that & walking keep it in line. Any weight loss (even 5% really does drop your blood sugar level).

I understand, I truly do, but try to enjoy what you can each day x

AmelieTaylor · 30/03/2020 20:31

@Goatymcgoaty

The BMI they have been talking about is anything over 25, even 27 being an issue.

Trying to think of the source, I’ll
Post again if I remember, but it was someone credible

Goatymcgoaty · 30/03/2020 20:49

@AmelieTaylor I can’t deny it’s one of the risk factors. But 64% of the uk population is above BMI 25. If there was a direct correlation then we’d be seeing far more than 20% of infected people in hospital. And the DM would be having a field day... I think there are probably a lot of different factors which result in someone suffering badly.

Thank you all.

I know I'm being silly but I really am suffering from anxiety a lot right now.

If I'm in the house and don't go out, my chances of catching it are drastically reduced arent they? Almost impossible to catch right?
