High risk but no letter

By all accounts on charts I've looked at online I ought to be very high risk and receiving an official letter from the NHS to say to shield. However no letter has arrived. Anyone else in this situation and know if they are still sending letters?

I think I saw somewhere that if you believe you should have had a letter and hadn’t by today to contact GP.

The only thing I’m not sure of was the “if you haven’t heard by...” date (saw it last week)

ArkAtEee · 30/03/2020 15:47

Me too. Maybe they haven't sent them all out yet? I think mine will need reviewing by a GP because it's 'compound risk' based on a number of categories.

Could you say what your reason is? There are a few nuances in the guidance which may explain why you've been missed eg a specialist changing your medication recently and the letter explaining this didn't make it back to your GP. I agree you should probably contact your GP for clarification too. Stay safe Thanks

Escapeistheonlyoption · 30/03/2020 15:53

My DH got one but my DF didnt. He called his GP who said they had a backlog and it should be here today. The press said only 900,000 of the 1.5 million had been sent last week.

ClientQueen · 30/03/2020 15:55

I haven't, contacted the GP who said they didn't know what to do

Dancingbythelightofthemoon2020 · 30/03/2020 16:19

Thanks for the helpful info. Hopefully it will come through soon.
Sorry I also found a similar thread after I posted this!

The website says

"If you have not received a letter by Monday 30 March, you can register yourself for support on the gov.uk website.
www.gov.uk/coronavirus-extremely-vulnerable
"

Should my 73 year old Dad have received one? He has COPD, and despite everyone telling him he shouldn’t, he keeps going food shopping and to collect his paper from the newsagents each day Hmm

If he had something ‘official’ saying he shouldn’t, perhaps he’d take it more seriously...

HairyHoraceHaggis · 30/03/2020 16:46

I contacted my GP when the shielding groups were first announced - as I needed to know whether I could continue to go out to work or not, in a high risk environment (I have severe asthma).

She said, don’t wait for a letter, if you do get one it might take weeks anyway, so start isolating now without waiting.

GreytExpectations · 30/03/2020 16:47

You may not be high risk enough. A lot of people think they are but it's not the case and they just need to be careful

MrsHoolie · 30/03/2020 16:55

My DP got a text from the NHS last Monday and then a letter a couple of days later.

Emms89 · 30/03/2020 19:45

My mum is extremely high risk and hadn't received one.. she rang her consultant today and he said that they've been sent and she should receive it by the end of the week. X

Glittercandle · 30/03/2020 19:49

My son hasn’t been sent one (takes immune suppressants). I emailed the GP and he said he should be shielding- have registered him in the gov site but don’t know if he’ll get a letter.

caringcarer · 30/03/2020 19:52

I thought I would be on list as severe asthma using Fostaire and needed to go on nebulizer twice last year and steroids needed 3 times. I am just self isolating as I know what it feels like not be able to breath properly. I have not got text or letter.

Dancingbythelightofthemoon2020 · 30/03/2020 22:08

I meet the criteria about 3 times over for various things so there's no doubt about that. I suspect that a backlog is likely so will hold tight rather than bother the GP or hospital clinic staff.

I was expecting a text or letter last week due to asthma medication but never got one. The gov.uk website just said "severe asthma" with no clarification of what that means. The asthma UK website last week said if on inhalers such as Fostair, or if had steroids twice in past year, and both of those things apply to me. However Asthma UK guidance has now changed. Steroids no longer listed, and only high dose Fostair (which upon googling I have found means 200/6 as opposed to the 100/6 I am on). So all things considered, I guess this means I'm no longer considered to be high risk.

Historyofeverything1 · 30/03/2020 23:44

I spoke to my gp today as dc hadn't got a letter and the government information says ring gp if you haven't received a letter /text by today.
She said many have been missed out because of the different computer systems across the NHS, also in dcs case medication is prescribed by hospital not gp and also apparently a lot of searches are missing out children when the advice says otherwise. It took two minutes for doctors to advise me worth the call.

If you haven’t received a letter, are you meant to register online or call your GP or call your hospital consultant?
