Abuse of key workers for not social distancing

Over the past week DH has encountered abuse from members of the public shouting at him and his team for not social distancing. He works in utilities and today was screamed at by a woman who stopped in her car and called them a disgrace. They were fixing a gas leak which had cut off an entire housing estate so was called a disgrace for ensuring that those people in isolation had heating, hot water and gas to cook with. I'm so angry that not only is he worried sick about getting the virus at work and bringing it back to his family but also has to put up with daily abuse. Are some people so thick they dont realise that some jobs require you to be closer than 6ft away from another person and that key workers arent out there just doing it for a fucking laugh!!

Yes lots of people are that thick.
And when thick people are scared they get aggressive.
Your husband will just have to ignore it.

I'm sorry your DH had to deal with such nasty idiocy.

Please say thanks to him for helping keep the country running safely. Thanks

Well done to your husband for continuing to do his very vital job

Some people just totally lack common sense and seem to relish the chance to shout at and judge other people- I think they’re probably not very nice people, or perhaps they’re stressed and scared and it comes out as nastiness.
Horrible for your husband to be shouted at. Most people are not so silly, and will be grateful that some people are continuing to do these jobs. The shouters are the minority, but I have experienced the same thing and it’s frustrating and upsetting.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Was just really angry and needed to vent

My dad walks to his job in the nhs.

He has had to stop, because people are shouting at him.

They have no idea why he is out, could be just his daily walk.

Some people are enjoying being able to abuse others whilst claiming the moral high ground.

It's very very odd and unsettling.

Sorry he is having to deal with sort of stuff.

There are some absolute twats out there.

I saw this in the Daily Mail:

today was screamed at by a woman who stopped in her car and called them a disgrace.

And she was in the car because...?

I think my stock response would become "I'll call the police for you"

JediJim · 01/04/2020 19:04

That’s fine. Ask the stupid woman if she’s happy to sit at home for weeks, possibly months, with no gas?
Why would a random strange person stop a gas van and have a go at them?
From working with the public I can confirm that there’s lots of dimwits and weirdo people out there. More than I ever realised, for many years I didn’t know these people existed!

lol so disgraceful, im laughing out of shock... Cant she see them working and need to get things done in pairs? Why is she in her car wondering around if she's that scared

Im sorry he has to do this job and not be inside a car chilling and shouting at ppl!!
