I just can't be arsed today. The kids are playing in the garden.

We all woke up late. Had breakfast. Watched a film.

Haven't even logged into the work apps.

Am calling it a long weekend 😂

Call it an Inset day. Smile

MaisyMary77 · 30/03/2020 13:11

Yes but only because ds is autistic and needs the routine to get by. If he wanted to play out in the garden or watch a movie I’d definitely let him!

trilbydoll · 30/03/2020 13:13

Mine are only 6 and 4 so happy playing on a maths app or similar. Not doing proper 'let's sit down and do this worksheet' type stuff much at all.

pinkazing · 30/03/2020 13:14

We’re having a ‘snow day‘ I think a few flakes count, tbf I am unwell, but I could nag DS if I really wanted.

Bluewater1 · 30/03/2020 13:15

Yes but because DS is autistic and needs us to stick to what we said we'd do

LRCG · 30/03/2020 13:15

Trying to get a couple of hours in in the morning. DS is 5, autistic and really more concerned about when it's time to go on his ipad. It is a nightmare getting him to concentrate!!

anothermansmother · 30/03/2020 13:16

Yep but my children are being compliant recently. Although saying that one of my dd (9) tasks she has been set is design and build I den then photograph it...so not really work. My ds has just followed his school schedule as they post lessons at the time they should be happening.

As a teacher if they're happy playing in the garden leave them to it and let them recharge.

Hoohaahoo · 30/03/2020 13:16

Yeah we are. The teachers aren’t happy if the work isn’t returned by 3pm, they expect you to at least attempt some of what is set.

I’m not working so might as well, bog all else to do.

Longdistance · 30/03/2020 13:18

Yes, we’re sticking to the routine, but most of the work is done in the morning. I’m about to have a nap. Dh is doing PE with dds and I’ll be making cakes with dds.

InDubiousBattle · 30/03/2020 13:18

Yes. So far anyway! Mine are only little though and I'm being very....lenient on what counts as 'schoolwork' . We're doing some writing every morning, they're reading to me, I'm reading to them and we're doing one other proper activity. Today we need to clean the fish out so that will be our activity and they will write instructions on how to do it, draw pictures etc. I'm sure that counts?? I have quite biddable children so it's no big effort to get them to do it

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 30/03/2020 13:20

We've had heaps to do but I think DD is missing the classroom environment and actual qualified and skilled teachers to keep her on track more than she'd admit. Luckily I'm I'm not working so can crack the whip occasionally. We too have 2 days to do work with a 3.10pm deadline.

But as many have pointed out she'd Y7 now and this isn't a holiday.

Take care all Thanks

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 30/03/2020 13:22

Dubious I love the fish tank idea! Lots of subject cross over there, you could take photos too!

ScrapThatThen · 30/03/2020 13:23

Yes, 14 yo here, she's working on facetime with a friend for two sessions a day, finishing up her other subjects in the weekday evenings and then anything she didn't get around to at the weekend. However, this is entirely without my instigation or involvement so I can't take the credit.

bobstersmum · 30/03/2020 13:28

We have set on this routine, get up, washed dressed and eat breakfast, school work for couple of hours, break, lunch and then play out in garden, then afternoon to relax. Mine are only 6+7. I think it's enough. We are covering all subjects. I'm not a teacher, one of mine has additional needs and I have a 2 year old to entertain, as well as general jobs, so this is what works for us.

yorkshirecountrylass · 30/03/2020 13:33

Absolutely not! The work pack sent home from school has been touched don't get me wrong but only about 50% of what had been "set." DS is 7 for context, if he was older then may be more inclined but as it stands he's learned about food production, baking, virus spread (benefits of being a nurse!) human and equine anatomy, equine nutrition, we've done gym circuits, gardening, movie production (husband's remit!). This is an unprecedented time - if they're of an age where you're able let them learn what they want!

PogoBob · 30/03/2020 13:40

We've been treating the first fortnight as Easter holidays so no school work yet. DD currently painting and DS orchestrating some sort of robot invasion that involving spreading toys throughout the house!

I'm Wfh, normal workload is manic and I've been have additional work falling out of the coronavirus legislation so working silly hours right now.

Planning to set up a routine from next week, will likely only be doing a few hours a day even then

runningwoman1980s · 30/03/2020 13:41

We've been condensing the days into three so the kids have a few more days off.

SallyWD · 30/03/2020 13:47

Yes we are. It usually takes between 1 and 2 hours. We do it each morning then they can relax for the rest of the day. I do find it exhausting though. My DS won't focus and keeps messing around.

MarshaBradyo · 30/03/2020 13:49

Yes no where near the length of a school day, maybe a couple of hours and I have to motivate the ten year old. The older one is better as he has classes.

jomaIone · 30/03/2020 13:50

Is it not the easter holidays yet? It is in Scotland! X

BlessYourCottonSocks · 30/03/2020 13:53

Yes, but we are only working mornings. Y10 DS and I'm keeping to routine of schoolwork 9-12. He's doing ok. We will have 2 weeks off for Easter.

YgritteSnow · 30/03/2020 13:53

Yes. We took it easy the first few days of last week and lived to regret it when we had to complete a weeks work in three days. There was a LOT! It's just not worth taking the time off for us. Too stressful trying to catch up.

Chiyo666 · 30/03/2020 13:54

It’s the holidays so no.

GreyishDays · 30/03/2020 13:55

It’s not in Edinburgh, so not all Scotland, jomalone

BrooHaHa · 30/03/2020 13:55

There's going to be a huge gap after all this between the ones who actually tried and the ones who couldn't be bothered.
