Should I be saving the delivery slots for others

I have mild asthma, I can't drive/ don't have a car and I have a young toddler. Is it wrong of me to do an online grocery shop once a week? Or should I be leaving them for people more in need?

Not wrong of you at all. Keep the slot.

Laurendelight · 30/03/2020 12:26

Keep the slot unless you have someone in the household who can mind your toddler. No children allowed in most supermarkets.

Oysterbabe · 30/03/2020 12:27

Do you live alone?

Sconio123 · 30/03/2020 12:29

Not wrong at all

I'd much sooner see the delivery slots going to folk like yourself, rather than some lazy tosser who simply can't be arsed to queue!

GirlCalledJames · 30/03/2020 12:30

You can always offer to buy for elderly neighbours too if it would make you feel better.

zelbazinnamon · 30/03/2020 12:32

Are you a single parent?

Herpesfreesince03 · 30/03/2020 12:33

If you need it you need it. I don’t get all these martyrs on Mumsnet who are going without essentials so other people can benefit

ChipotleBlessing · 30/03/2020 12:36

I think that’s fine. We have three people in higher risk groups in the house (and the one who isn’t is a child) and no car and we use online delivery slots. We’ve got them with a supermarket at the minute but gradually trying to shift to local suppliers who have more capacity to deliver. It’s hard to get everything that way though, particularly if you need nappies!

iVampire · 30/03/2020 12:39

I am in the exceptionally vulnerable ‘shield’ group and losing the will to live as I’m having real difficulties sorting out his on earth one gets ‘vulnerable’ priority

But I don’t begrudge slots to those who have managed to book them by normal means,

Only surrender ones you genuinely no longer need

Twaddledee · 30/03/2020 12:44

Can you stock up for 2 weeks at a time?

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 30/03/2020 12:52

Can you stock up for 2 weeks at a time?

due to shopping restrictions (and fair enough, something had to be done!)
and the amount of missing items,
it's becoming impossible to do a shop big enough to last a couple of weeks. It's a vicious circle Sad

If this was going to last more than a couple of months, ration cards of sorts taking into account the size of your household would be needed!

Cissyandflora · 30/03/2020 12:54

I’m vulnerable too. I’m going to try to change my weekly to 10 days or even fortnightly if I can. But just do whatever you need. I’ve already edited my basket- ordered weeks ago- to take out things I’ve got enough of and that others probably need. So bleach, tissues, soap, wipes, kitchen towel all taken out of this week’s order because I’ve got enough from last week. Then going forward I’ll try to plan better. The orders I have had so far were booked before all of this really took hold.

viccat · 30/03/2020 12:57

Keep your slot! There is no way to guarantee it would go to someone more in need anyway - from what I've seen on other threads, supermarkets are releasing their slots very randomly to different customers. For example, most are prioritising existing customers anyway.

InDubiousBattle · 30/03/2020 13:05

It depends. If you're a single parent then I think you should keep the slot rather than taking your toddler to the supermarket, stock up as much as you can afford in the slot. If you live with another adult then one of you should do the shopping and free up the slot.

LittleLittleLittle · 30/03/2020 13:57

Keep the slot and get items for other people who are vulnerable and live nearby.

CeibaTree · 30/03/2020 19:02

How are you getting a slot once a week at the moment?

DesLynamsMoustache · 30/03/2020 19:03

We have a recurring slot with Asda. Same time every week.
