Hosp appointment without parent/legal guardian?

This may be a stupid query.

My son is due his cast off tomorrow, I have type one diabetes and I do not have a spleen, so I want to avoid the hospital if possible.

Does anyone have experience of sending their child in with a partner and a letter outlining permission medical treatment? Son is four almost five, so too old for my boyfriend to lie and say he’s his dad.

I have tried calling the hospital, but understandably I haven’t had an answer.

I’m aware I probably need to get a grip and just go myself.

If your partner is able to take him and your ds has a good relationship with him, then it's routine, non invasive and straight forward, I'd do as you're thinking and send the letter with your dp. Worse case, they ring you for verbal permission over the phone or send him home and say 'you need to do it like this'. You don't need to be around the hospital at the moment and I'm sure the staff would be the first to agree.

A cast off is hardly invasive treatment and I think a letter with your partner would suffice, and be the best logical & most sensible option in the circumstances.

We did MIL a letter so she could take DD for her jabs, I'm sure similar would be more than fine for having a cast off.

*Before all this obviously - they happened to fall on the day she usually had her.

Well they have gone, so fingers crossed, he will need an x-ray as well as removal, I have no idea what we will do about physiotherapy now.

But as a bonus, my first child free time in almost three weeks! But the time I decide what to do they’ll be back.

I’ve taken a friend’s DS to a hospital appointment. I’m sure it will be fine.

SimonJT · 31/03/2020 14:21

Well they took his cast off and carried out an x-ray, but wouldn’t then discuss anything with him, so I’m none the wiser about arrangements for physiotherapy etc 🤷🏽‍♂️

At least bath time will now be a lot easier.

They will send a referral to physio and you may get a call for advice over the telephone but otherwise it will be shelved until lockdown is eased.
