Shopping - solo or with DP?

Sorry if this has already been answered. Is there a rule around how many people from a household can go to the supermarket? I think it's just one person, but just wanted to check.

Not been since a week last Friday, and will probably be going this Friday. Usually go with DP, but he doesn't drive so it'll fall to me.

Less people in the shops the better, go on your own!

BubblesBuddy · 30/03/2020 12:03

Solo. Why risk both of you? If you need help to shop, that’s different. Please avoid raking DC too, if applicable.

canyon2000 · 30/03/2020 12:05

There are posters up in my Sainsburys asking for only 1 person from each household to come in and shop, so go on your own.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 30/03/2020 12:07

Solo if possible. A lot of supermarkets are only allowing one adult in.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 30/03/2020 12:07

Unless you are disabled and therefore need help to shop, only one of you needs to go really don’t you?

A lot of shops are also making people queue to get inside so if you turn up as 2 people, it takes longer for everyone as only x amount of people are allowed in at one time.

If you don’t want to get out the house then go for a walk. Supermarkets aren’t days out

Thank you, everyone!

I don't understand people who are still shopping in pairs or groups so definitely solo OP unless there's a specific reason. Only one of you is at risk of catching it therefore and you'll have reduced your risk as a family of getting it from this one trip by 50%.

cantdothisnow1 · 30/03/2020 12:09

solo, most supermarkets will turn one of you away otherwise.

IsletsOfLangerhans · 30/03/2020 12:10

Definitely on your own. The shops are counting people in and if two go in together, you delay the person behind from getting in. DH works in a supermarket and was getting increasingly frustrated at the weekend by the number of couples and even family groups coming in together, whilst others were shivering in the queues outside :(

Brokenchair1 · 30/03/2020 12:12

This reminds me of a couple I saw holding hands and shopping in Tesco the other day. ffs shopping is not a day out, it's an essential. I'm even leaving DD 7 outside my tiny Tesco express while I go in. I'm avoiding supermarkets because I do not want to take DD in so making do with small shops of essentials.

Rant over!

Morrisons has a one person one trolley policy.

catscatscatseverywhere · 30/03/2020 12:15

Wow, good to know. I wanted to go with my partner as this would speed up the process. I was thinking of going together, getting two trolleys and split the shopping- these aisles are yours, these are mine and we will meet in a car. Is it bad idea? 😕 I was planning to do shopping for 2 weeks so lot of products.

Bagelsandbrie · 30/03/2020 12:18

I think it’s a bit frustrating if people go in pairs unless they absolutely have to. Where we are the stores are doing 1 in 1 out, so where there are 2 or 3 people they have to wait for 2 or 3 people to come out, slowing down the whole queue.

Sirzy · 30/03/2020 12:18

The more people in a shop the more chance of infection increases.

One person go and do shopping. Between three houses we are picking up what is needed and dropping it on doorsteps to reduce the amount of people out.

Daisiest · 30/03/2020 12:23

One person only unless they absolutely have to have another with them around here.

Too many people treating it like a day out so they put up signs and security.

GreenTulips · 30/03/2020 12:27

catscatscatseverywhere

It won’t speed up, you have to wait for the person in front to move on.

I saw a couple holding hands kissing at the tills last week, kids have to stay outside in the car.

Just go get what you need for now, bug shops are starting to limit you to 80 max times

ACertainSupermarket · 30/03/2020 12:29

I saw a couple being asked if only one of them would go in, both looked perfectly fit to me, the woman barked 'I can't do it without him' and barged through. Selfish.
And to those who say I don't know the full circumstances, true but:
Can't pack or lift? Staff will help in store.
Can't drive? Partner stays in car.
Can't make decisions? Partner stays at home or in car, use phone.
Suffer from anxiety? Don't go in, send the partner.

catscatscatseverywhere · 30/03/2020 12:30

Thanks GreenTulips. I will go on my own then as I cook, so I know better what to buy. Wow, I haven’t been in the supermarket in the last two weeks, so I don’t really know what’s the situation right now.

ACertainSupermarket · 30/03/2020 12:32

And yes some dickhead couples are taking in a trolley in each then meandering around together with 3 things in each trolley - we see you, you're not clever.
