Magazine subscriptions and the like for a 90 year old?

My Great Aunt is isolating completely on her own, she is 90.

I will be making sure she is covered with food shopping but does anyone have any ideas with regards to entertainment? I'm thinking things like magazine subscriptions. She can't work technology that well so things like putting on a DVD would be out of the question.

Any ideas? She is usually surrounded by family so very lonely at the moment.

Yours magazine is ideal, also woman's weekly and people's friend. I have an 83 yo nan who reads these.

What's her eyesight like?
My ancient, but lovely, F-I-L was an avid reader but had awful eyesight and struggled to read normal size print.
Would a supply of large print books be useful?
You'd have to buy these tho as all libraries closed as FAIA.

What about audio books?

Peoples Friend?

There is a nostalgia magazine called Best of British which is quite interesting.

HeIenaDove · 29/03/2020 22:09

Yours also do one called Yours Retro which has stuff about the old film stars, old TV stars and other nostalgia stuff like articles about the old street markets etc.

Also, prompted by @HelenaDove, channel 81, Freeview TV, "Talking Pictures" shows very old films which she may, or may not, enjoy.

Does she knit?

Audio books?

bookmum08 · 29/03/2020 22:22

Oh yes my mother in law is addicted to that Talking Pictures channel. Some of the films are actually quite good.

My mum is 81 & reads Yours, My Weekly, woman's Weekly. She also reads my Woman & Home, Prima & Good Housekeeping. Does she read books? Maybe a tablet & a book subscription would be good for her.

My dad loves a wasjig (jigsaw brand’ you can get these on amazon. Adult colouring is also a good way to pass the time. Does she like crosswords etc you could send her a book?

Thank you for all the suggestions, I will take a look at them.
Her eyesight is surprisingly sharp for a 90 year old, although she often wears reading glasses.
She used to enjoy knitting but arthritis in her hands has made it impossible for her.
