“Essential” workers - primary school secretary?

Hi

I need some advice please.

Namechanged as outing.

Today the first real-life CV death that I know of (friend of a friend) has happened in my small home town. So quite a shock. This is real. Truly awful.

Our primary school is open to key workers and I’ve been on the office rota and been going in - doing my bit. I have DCs but DH working from home so we are managing. But - oh the joys of living in a small town - I have found out that the teenage DS of somebody else on the rota, well actually the caretaker so the person who is in every day - has been hanging out with mates (not from the same home) so now I’m furious but also terrified.

Please help me get a grip as I’m on the rota tomorrow and I feel sick about going in.

I’m not in a Union so how do I find out the definition of key worker? The phone only rang once on Friday the whole time I was in school. I think it’s bloody ridiculous that I’m being told to go in.

How are other primary schools operating?

Any advice?

Thank you

The school I work at has closed the office. The SLT who is on rota is answering the phone.

Schools are being advised that only staff who are directly caring for the children should be in school. They need to put the phone on answerphone or direct to the staff, give you a laptop connected to the server so you can do any work needed from home.
How many children are attending?

ZebedeeIsMyFriend · 29/03/2020 20:05

Between 6-10 each day

@Soontobe60 Are all schools being advised that? Is there any guidance of that online? Thank you

ZebedeeIsMyFriend · 29/03/2020 20:28

Justgivemethehobnobs I am googling!!!

I work in a school and they also have all staff in on a rota as the head thinks this way is fairer.

Justgivemethehobnobs · 29/03/2020 21:44

@ZebedeeIsMyFriend Yes I can't find anything official to say that either. Hopefully it will be cascaded though.

missmapp · 29/03/2020 21:49

In the school i work in office staff are not in. The office phones are 're directed to the SLT on duty. The head is desperately trying to limit the numbers who come in to the bare minimum

Justgivemethehobnobs

I found this on the NAHT website:

Only staff working directly with students or key to opening, and cleaning, should be on the school site.

We don't have any office staff in school.

SLT are on a rota to come in and answer phones and deal with any parent/staff queries.

Our school has no office staff in, they can do a lot from home! There is one member of SLT in plus a rota of skeleton staff for a childcare

Thank you @ZebedeeIsMyFriend. I suppose it will all come down to if the key to opening can be applied to office staff.
