What are the options for stricter measures?

Just wondering what we might be looking at as this continues, and wondered if those who have studied the measures overseas might have a sense of what could come next.

thank you

The obvious one is further limits on the "daily exercise" component of the current arrangement. Could be limiting the time allowed outside, banning cycling due to increased risk of accidents), limiting how far you can go from your home. In some countries they have banned outdoor exercise altogether.

Nightly curfews are also a possibility, especially for the young. I imagine they are looking at the data on where non-compliance has been most problematic so far.

And how precisely is limits on daily exercise going to be policed short of fitting everyone in the UK with a tag ?

Police will randomly stop and check. That's why distance from home address would be the likeliest limit.

I think the French system of carrying a letter about why you are going out might happen. It'll force everyone to think about the purpose and importance of what they are doing before they go out.

Exercise can be limited to being within a certain radius of your home. Worst case scenario, we can't exercise.

Other options I read about for other countries limit how often you can go to shops only spending an hour shopping.

Apparently police are checking people locally asking them to prove their journey is essential. Also, someone got caught leaving a corner shop just having bought beer, as he hadn't left home for something deemed essential.

A voucher system sent out by government ie. Only one person per household once a week in a supermarket/shop, of which everyone must present a single-use voucher(sent by government) at checkout with an expiry date and address on, similar for pharmacies, once used it is scanned and voided and anyone attempting to shop without one be refused and if repeated, fined.

Exercise reduced to on your own property only or within a very short space of home if no enclosed outside space. No collection of food - delivery only and by only cafes restaurants who have obtained 5* hygiene ratings in most recent inspections (and no history of being shutdown).

Those caring for elderly and vulnerable should register their details in advance on a database with the addresses of those they are caring for. Trips to these people limited depending on circumstance.

Forget to add, he received a fine

I hope they don't try and stop people from exercising. That would store problems up for the future. It is bad enough that people can't go to see their gp about any health concerns without taking away exercise. I never see anybody on my runs as I live rurally and most people are following the rules. Those that aren't observing social distance now won't suddenly comply because they have made everybody else give up exercise.

It would be very bad for children to stay indoors without exercise or fresh air indefinitely. There is nothing wrong with a walk away from other people if you can get one.

Drones watching us.
No exercise outside, just in the garden if you have one.
Letters or forms to explain where you are going and why you are outside.

Orangeblossom78 · 29/03/2020 18:06

I don't understand how limiting the one daily exercise would actually change much?

I wold have thought the main big one is work- essential work would be further limited to strict key work instead- limiting further mixing.

ifonly4 · 29/03/2020 18:13

The problem with exercise and shopping is that some don't think the rules apply to them. Most colleagues aren't applying the two meter rule. A customer approached me earlier, certainly in my space. Walking to car after work a jogger ran up behind me very close. That's just today.

BrieAndChilli · 29/03/2020 18:23

In Dubai my SIL says no one is allowed out after 8pm until 6am and all the speed cameras automatically flash any car that is out within those times and you get a fine.
Masks have to be worn outside

LeeMiller · 29/03/2020 19:48

In Italy before everything was tightened, people were walking/running/walk-in the dog in parks, beauty spots, on the beach etc. Now you can't access those places, exercise and walking the dog have to be in the immediate vicinity of your home as quickly as possible.

The police enforce the rules via spot checks and big fines: in Italy you have to complete a form every time you go out saying where you're going (food shopping, pharmacy, caring responsibility, key worker job, exercise), and they check the information provided, and where you live (you have to food shop and exercise locally, for example). In France your form has to state the time you started your walk, too long and you'll be fined.

Stop anyone working that's not classified as key workers. So all those firms "forcing" employees to still work from their offices etc would significantly reduce the number of people still out, using public transport etc.
