My partner and I are in our 70s, fit and well and have been fully self isolating for 8 days. Our daughter and grandson live nearby, and have also fully self isolated for 8 days. Is there any reason why she shouldn't visit or even stay with us?

Because we've been told not to mix households by the government. Do you think the rules don't apply to you?

Persipan · 29/03/2020 15:41

From the gov.uk guidance:

"Stay at home. Only go outside for food, health reasons or work (but only if you cannot work from home). If you go out, stay 2 metres (6ft) away from other people at all times. Wash your hands as soon as you get home. Do not meet others, even friends or family."

"No, you should not be visiting family members who do not live in your home. You should keep in touch with them using phone or video calls."

There is no logical reason why you can't if you have all fully self isolated for that length of time however you will be accused of murder and flouting rules on here anyway

Wingedharpy · 29/03/2020 15:43

Only if the Pandemic is over where you live OP.

.....and, if so, can you tell us all where you live so that we can move there?🤔🤔🤔

negomi90 · 29/03/2020 15:43

Because the incubation period is 14 days up to 21 days. Because 80% of children will be asymptomatic and there is no way of knowing if your grandson has it.
Because you need to stay off the streets to keep it for emergency services and key workers.
Because the government has asked you not to and you could be fined as the travel is non-essential.

It can take 15 days for the virus to really get to work on you ...

niffynoonoo · 29/03/2020 15:44

seriously??

esjee · 29/03/2020 15:45

I'd give it another week, and only then if none of you have been going shopping etc.

willdoitinaminute · 29/03/2020 15:46

The incubation is up to 14 days. Young people, although isolating may be asymptomatic. In healthcare we are now instructed to assume EVERYONE has the virus so that we take the same amount of care with the visibly well as we do with the critically ill.
Treat everyone and every surface, outside of your home, you come in contact with as though they have the virus. That way you are less likely to become infected. This includes anything delivered to you.

TheReluctantCountess · 29/03/2020 15:48

None of you have left the house at all? To go to the shop? For a walk? Have you had nothing delivered to your house from outside? No post?

tenterden · 29/03/2020 15:50

FFS I despair Sad

🤔 Hm, the incubation time of coronavirus could be one such reason.
Perhaps use lockdown to educate yourself on the virus, the Internet has one or two articles, they shouldn't be too hard to find.

Itwasntme1 · 29/03/2020 16:03

They could walk passed your house, you could wave through a window - even open it and have a chat (Keeping at a safe distance). But you can’t visits in the traditional sense.
