I cannot believe how many people still have their cleaners coming to their house!

I just cannot get over how many friends and family members still have their cleaner coming to their house and how they somehow square this with getting out to clap for NHS workers and think they are abiding by the government restrictions.

Our cleaners suspended all their domestic cleans 2 weeks ago so the decision was taken for us. I'm higher risk though so we would have stopped ours anyway.

My neighbour still has her entire family visiting daily. Someone having a cleaner visit doesn’t surprise me

If the cleaner cleans while family members are in another room is there any added risk to the cleaner continuing to work? This is work which cannot be done from home so it would seem to fall within the government guidelines for work that can still be done.

Government guidance is clear

“only go outside for food health reasons or work (but only if you cannot work from home)”

I cannot believe how many people still have their cleaners coming to their house!

It falls within current guidelines. I have cancelled mine on full pay.

Cleaning in another room doesn't work - if the cleaner is infected they will be spreading/shedding the virus all over the house. Effectively it is exposing the family in the house being cleaned to all the people the cleaner has contact with (which could be a very wide group if the cleaner is cleaning a number of houses).

presumably she wears gloves though
and cleaning needs doing
cleaners have to clean supermarkets, hospitals, public transport, any offices that are open.
as long as she has no symptoms i can see no reason why she should stop?

we don't have a cleaner, but our window cleaner came yesterday. He messaged ahead of time to say I'll avoid you, you avoid me, etc. I was fine with it as we wont have to be near each other at all and he's going to have no money whatsoever if he has to stop cleaning windows. I feel for the people, like house cleaners, catering and retail staff, airline staff etc. who are out of work indefinitely

Cleaners ARE still allowed to go to work as long as social distancing is observed. My cleaner is still coming. She washes her hands and puts on latex gloves when she arrives. When she needs to clean a room, we all leave that room. She came last week and it worked very well. We went through the new rules before she came, so as to keep us all safe. One of the things I really hate about coronavirus is so many people taking it upon themselves to police everyone else's lives. You be mindful of what you're doing and leave others to do the same. I would not put my family or my cleaner at risk.
