DD 7 showing symptoms - talk me down please

My 7 year old DD is showing symptoms- unsurprising really as I have been ill for 7 days and it’s been impossible to isolate sufficiently.

Anxiety is through the roof as I have been pretty ill and I am not fully over it yet at all.

Have anyone else’s kids had it & been fine? What was the length of their illness

Something like 99.8% of all kids who have had it have been fine, so try not to be too anxious. Realistically chicken pox is probably more dangerous.

Think DS had it after DH and I. We were both sick for a week and lethargic for another week. DS (9) had a slight temp for ONE day, coughed about 2 days and is now back to eating me out of house and home. Seriously, had school been on he'd have had one day off. Children seem to be largely unaffected.

Children get it but are not getting acutely I’ll. I would expect any child deaths to come from the patient group with severe respiratory issues and probably multiple complex health issues. Calm down give her lots of fluid and calpol. The stats can be found if you want to go looking, the medical person on with Biris has also pointed out children are less affected. Most children’s units are changing to take adults at the moment because children don’t need Hospital treatment for this.

Thanks- that’s really reassuring to hear

@Ladyinamask my other child has asthma and is in the high risk group so anxiety is pretty high for that reason too altho I have upped the asthma meds

Even asthmatic children are not actually being affected badly. I’m talking about the really complex disabled children who we know often will die of a chest infection. Interesting not even they seem to be that badly affected yet. I am fully expecting a few deaths from that community but may be proved wrong.
I work in Paediatrics and it’s completely fascinating but honestly stay calm and sensible about the children they are really not the ones getting really ill. But for gods sake keep children away from grandparents at the moment x

Do not give ibuprofen it makes it worse. Only calpol
