Is this message I've received true?!

So the attached message was sent to me by someone on Facebook, who has a tendency to send all kinds of shite to her entire contact list!
I'm fairly level headed but tomorrow I'm venturing out to get shopping for both my own immediate family and my parents.
I will obviously be extremely careful but now I'm panicking that there maybe some truth in the message and I've picked totally the wrong day Confused

Is this message I've received true?!

An NHS worker is not the appropriate person to dispense this specialist knowledge. It us clearly bollocks.

velocitygirl7 · 28/03/2020 20:22

I will be going shopping, I'm the only one in the house who isn't classed as vulnerable and I'm also shopping for my parents who are in their 70s
I will be ultra careful and will shop carefully so I don't have to venture out again for a while.
Fake shite like that isn't helpful at a time like this!!

I saw this over a week ago so no it’s rubbish or if it was it’s passed now.

DoubleTweenQueen · 28/03/2020 20:24

I saw that too. Individuals will be infected at different times, not all at once, so I don’t see how an ‘incubation peak' can be reached? The whole point of staying at home and avoiding others is to reduce your exposure and thus your chance of catching the virus. If you go to the shop, firstly there will be food (my hubby went to Sainsbos on Thursday and did ok) plus the shops are taking extra precautions to limit the number of people in the shop and maximise space between. Plus they are wiping trolley handles and payment points. It is safer now than a week ago. Individuals should now be more than aware to stay at home if they have any symptoms at all. Please don’t be alarmed. Just take your precautions X

MagnoliaJustice · 28/03/2020 20:26

An NHS worker could be a cleaner, a porter, a housekeeper, not necessarily a medical professional. It's a bit like posters on here claiming to be lawyers or doctors. Anyone can be anything online and this is blatant scaremongering.

Take no notice and keep on following the government guidelines (even though Boris himself didn't)

NotPlayingOut · 28/03/2020 20:28

It's total fakery, harmful and awful that people spread this stuff.

RickOShay · 28/03/2020 20:28

Thank you so much for debunking this. I support a vulnerable family and the mum is seriously worried about it, she has so much on her plate, this is the last thing she needs.
I can reassure her now with confidence. Thanks.

Yeahsurewhatever · 28/03/2020 20:29

Always wondered who fell for these
And why people are always sharing scam warnings like anyone would actually think it’s real.

Op if you’re worried, the news sources (official ones) literally get paid and run off news And clicks on their articles. They have targets to meet to get articles out too.
If there’s literally anything to report on like this they would report it. So if it’s not on there, and the only source is some random person sharing it on Facebook, surely you can make an educated guess.

WhatTiggersDoBest · 28/03/2020 20:29

That message is very garbled. Just follow the proper official guidelines.

WaxOnFeckOff · 28/03/2020 20:30

yep, I got it twice yesterday, one was obviously written by someone for whom English was a 2nd language and the other was more like your, message the same though.

It's a pile of shite, just ignore/bin it.

lakequeen · 28/03/2020 20:30

Why are people like this 🙄

user127819 · 28/03/2020 20:30

That message is just speculation, it may be true, it may not be. Just because someone is an NHS worker, doesn't make them an expert epidemiologist.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 28/03/2020 20:32

I often wonder what sort of person writes that.

Is it someone who genuinely believes it, or someone who wants to be a hero for 15 minutes, or someone who is just happy to spread misinformation.

If that was true, it would be "an NHS worker" whatever that means, it would be someone qualified enough who would be happy to sign it.

Social media is such a nasty pit of nastiness now.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 28/03/2020 20:33

Shite.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 28/03/2020 20:34

Also, the proliferation of exclamation marks is never a good indicator for the validity of a message.

CassieAuLait · 28/03/2020 20:34

It makes sense, though, that everyone who picked up the virus before social distancing and lockdown will be starting to become symptomatic this week.

It will seem to get worse before it gets better. Hopefully fewer people were infected over this last week due to lockdown. And that will start to show in the stats for a couple of weeks time.

OhMargo · 28/03/2020 20:36

Facebook is the problem here folks. And those who use it with bad intent. Awful thing. Glad I got rid of it years ago.

Sandii · 28/03/2020 20:37

www.who.int/health-topics/coronavirus#tab=tab_1

World Health Organisation information . Sensible , non panicky up-to-date info .....ignore all the people who are enjoying the drama and scaremongering . There’s seriously something wrong with them .

iheartislesofwight · 28/03/2020 20:37

reason #267 why i don't use social media [no problem with others using it obviously] it seems to full of this rubbish.

Pelleas · 28/03/2020 20:37

We should be staying at home as much as possible anyway - the message, whether true or not, is only telling us to do what we should be doing already.

FWIW I don't think it is true, because the trajectory will be different depending on where you are. Some parts of the UK are further along the line than others.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 28/03/2020 20:40

It's the internet equivalent of a chain letter - you know, the ones that used to say "Pass this on to 10 people otherwise all the fairies in Ireland will have their wings fall off and children will get cancer."

Ignore it.

DowntownAbby · 28/03/2020 20:40

Facebook should be banned.

It brings absolutely no good to the world whatsoever.

ShastaBeast · 28/03/2020 20:41

It doesn’t make much sense but it’s true that more have it now than had it a couple of weeks ago, therefore the most recent cases are now symptomatic and at their most infectious - shedding most live virus. However keeping our distance and obsessive hand washing/not touching surfaces and faces will prevent many cases. So no news and it’s not that much more risky, maybe even less so, than last week.

Ilovemypantry · 28/03/2020 20:42

I got sent this via messenger today. It doesn’t even say a date on it so how would we know when it’s supposed to be referring to. So many fake messages going around atm sadly.

HarrietThePi · 28/03/2020 20:43

My mil forwarded this message to me a day ago so today would have been the "don't leave the house" day. Don't pay it any attention.
