No choice but to go shopping

okiedokieme · 28/03/2020 16:08

There's no slots available for online or click & collect from any supermarket (tried all of them) been told by nhs111 app to stay home (I have a runny nose). There's no neighbourhood help here, no family ...

What are people doing? I have food until Monday, Tuesday possibly. We need to be able to buy basic food hampers!

Like this, maybe? www.morrisons.com/food-boxes/

Fifthtimelucky · 28/03/2020 16:12

I note what you've said about 111, but there's nothing on the NHS website about self isolating because of a runny nose. The symptoms to look out for are a high temperature and/or a new continuous cough.

I think you'll be fine to go shopping. In the longer term, you'll probably find that a local church will be organising help for those who are self isolating.

Michelleoftheresistance · 28/03/2020 16:13

Both adults in this household are vulnerable, we're in the same situation. No delivery slots from the supermarkets, local delivery services so overwhelmed they're taking on no more customers. We'll hold out for as long as we can, but middle to end of next week one of us is going to have to go and shop.

PointlessUsername · 28/03/2020 16:14

Michelleoftheresistance

I think you can register on directgov if vunerable and they arrange home deliverys for you.

Michelleoftheresistance · 28/03/2020 16:21

Pointless thank you - I think that's only for the NHS listed most vulnerable however? We'd be in the next group down.

Sunshine1239 · 28/03/2020 16:22

You don’t need to isolate with runny nose as it’s not even a symptom!

WillowGrove54 · 28/03/2020 16:23

Just be aware that we received a Morrison’s food box today and it had foods to the value of only £12.50 in it!!! We paid £35. There’s no one to complain to and as you can imagine, I’m furious Sad

Apolloanddaphne · 28/03/2020 16:26

I got a Morrisons food box too @WillowGrove54 and it had loads of food in it. Much more than n £12.50 worth! Did you have stuff missing?

rc22 · 28/03/2020 16:28

We have a phone number from our local council to ring if we need any assistance. Perhaps yours is doing something similar?

CleverQuacks · 28/03/2020 16:42

@WillowGrove54 I was really impressed with my Morrison’s food box. It had loads in

QuillBill · 28/03/2020 16:55

My mam is in this situation. She's in her seventies and has decided to self-isolate but she hasn't got any health issues so can't get on the government list.

She didn't stock pile because the government said it wasn't necessary.

She can't get any slots for Tesco which is the only supermarket, she is registered with already.

All her friends and neighbours are old and she's not on Facebook.

I can't share my,supermarket slots with her because they don't deliver to her area.

All I can do is drive three hours to,where she is and do a shop for her and drive three hours back!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 28/03/2020 17:02

I’m interested in the Morrison’s food box, what was inside.

SinglePringle · 28/03/2020 17:09

Those who can’t get out / have relatives that can’t get out, if you search FB groups for COVID 19 and then your or (in the case of QuillBill) your relatives town / area, there are many groups and people volunteering to do shopping for vulnerable people.

Look up local green grocers, taxi companies and Deliveroo (if it’s in your area) as many are delivering / collecting in order to make their ends meet. Also, try the church local to you / your relative - huge amount of help being coordinated (whether you attend or not).

PurpleDaisies · 28/03/2020 17:11

I’m confused why you’re self isolating. It sounds like you can just go shopping.

Longwhiskers14 · 28/03/2020 17:13

Is there someone who can shop for you? Lots of the supermarkets are well stocked now – my OH just nipped out because we needed milk and bread and he said the shops were quiet and the shelves full.

TW2013 · 28/03/2020 17:14

QuillBill can you look online and see if there are any farm shops/ food wholesalers who are doing home delivery in the area? The food selection is somewhat limited and some are large quantities so she may need to freeze some but it might tide her over, especially if you can also get a shop in for her. Maybe stop at a few shops on the way so you don't have to buy loads in any one shop.

ProfessorPootle · 28/03/2020 17:16

With a runny nose you’re fine to go out. Do you have a local butcher? Went to ours this morning, queue of 5 people so not a long wait and they had lots of meat, dairy, fruit and veg available. Then went to local mini market type place and got bread and cereals. Our local Waitrose and Sainsbury’s have queues to enter that are taking 3-4hrs, that’s just to get in the shop!

thepeopleversuswork · 28/03/2020 17:18

Morrisons food boxes sold out in my area

ProfessorPootle · 28/03/2020 17:19

If you really don’t want to go out local councils are organising volunteers to drop food to vulnerable people, we had a leaflet through the door last week, google your local council and what they’re doing. Facebook also have lots of local volunteer groups who are also arranging food/medicine drops to vulnerable people. A runny nose doesn’t make you vulnerable though.

QuillBill · 28/03/2020 18:04

I haven't managed to get a Morrison's box either or find anything else. W are going to keep trying for another five days and if we can't get something then one of us is going to drive up to her.

Snozzlemaid · 28/03/2020 18:16

Check your local Facebook groups. Ours has lots of information about local small shops who will deliver.

helpfulperson · 28/03/2020 18:22

Certainly in our area volunteer groups are sorting out a few older people who's families live at the other end of the country after the families got in touch via facebook

Cuppaand2biscuits · 28/03/2020 19:02

Contact your local council, the one you pay your council tax to. Ours are sending out emergency food parcels to those who genuinely have no one else to ask and can not leave the house.

ChipotleBlessing · 28/03/2020 19:33

Council emergency food parcels are not for people with a runny nose.

littlebitwooway · 28/03/2020 19:44

Worried about my brother today as he had a cough, vulnerable adult (not cv but other reasons)

Called food bank - for anyone self isolating or with no money

Take a photo of bank balance, email picture, and they would deliver 3 days worth of food. If I was quick it would be out for delivery that day, otherwise tomorrow.

Absolute godsend.
