Help for "extrmely vulnerable"

DH got one of the "NHS letters". Googling led me to the suggestion that he register on the uk.gov website, and we presumed this might be the database that supermarkets are basing their decisions on. The site says
"Register if you have a medical condition that makes you extremely vulnerable to coronavirus. For example, you’ll be able to ask for help getting deliveries of essential supplies like food."
www.gov.uk/coronavirus-extremely-vulnerable

But as you fill in the registration form it becomes clear that this is registering for one of the special standard parcels that they're talking about.

We don't need that, as long as we can continue to get a supermarket delivery slot every two weeks or so, so he hasn't registered.

But does not registering mean we won't be able to get a supermarket slot? Does anyone know any more about this?

Having registered, I have now had an email from the city council's 'City Lifeline':
Thank you for registering for coronavirus support as a clinically extremely vulnerable person (as identified by NHS England).

As your local council, we have been informed of your registration. We are aware that some people registered for the service as early as Monday 23rd March; unfortunately, no data was shared with us until yesterday.

We are now receiving daily updates on registrations for the service and plan to make contact with everyone registered to discuss how we ensure you are provided with the most appropriate local support.

If you stated in your initial registration that you were not able to access essential food supplies, this will be delivered directly to you at the address provided within the next 1-2 days.

We aim to telephone you on the number provided by Tuesday 31st March. However, in the meantime, if you have any urgent requirements that require our immediate attention please contact us

(email and helpline number)

Thank you for sharing that email.

Anyone struggling for food - check out beelivery. My PIL successfully ordered bread, milk and fruit this morning and it arrived within the hour (they're early risers so I expect ordered it at 7am).

I've also ordered bread and milk and am just waiting for it to arrive.

It's a bit expensive but if you can get some basics to tide you over whilst you wait for a delivery, instead of going out to the shops, then it will help you to minimise your risk, or minimise the risk to vulnerable members of your household.

Ah, good ... so it looks as if you'll only get the food delivery if you indicated that you needed one.

I wonder if that applies to all Councils?

Hmm ... can't find out on-line what, if anything, my Council (Leeds) is doing.

There are thousands of 6th form and university students with nothing to do. Am sure if you posted on your local facebook groups some of them would be happy to shop/collect prescriptions. Even paying them minimum wage for their time would likely save money on a food shop if they shopped in Aldi rather than getting some of the expensive local deliveries. We have found people very happy to do this and glad of chance to keep busy and get some money. Feel those who can pay should do so to save the free food and priority slots for those who cant afford this option even though we are in isolation for at least 12 weeks.

I’ve just registered DH, we’re ok at the moment, thanks to the wonderful Sainsbury’s NHS opening time coinciding with my journey into work.

When things kick off though I’ll have to move out into a hotel so a delivery slot would be just what we’d need.

There does seem to be a lot of confusion about the terminology and the difference between ‘vulnerable’ and ‘extremely vulnerable’.

There does seem to be a lot of confusion about the terminology and the difference between ‘vulnerable’ and ‘extremely vulnerable’. Worth raising it with my MP do you think?
