No underlying issues

I've seen so many cases of people with no underlying issues dying from this virus or being hospitalised. However I'm just wondering if it's media based and because everyone's talking about it so we all know about it and we shouldn't be panicking too much like ovbs enough to know it's serious? Like this happens to people all the time that catch flu or another virus surely but we just don't hear about it as much ? It still stands most people will be oka doesn't it ?just kind of feels like the death rates alot higher? Or getting higher ? I'm gathering we won't know until the end but not going to lie hearing about a 2 month old in hospital and a 12 year old when I have kids and baby any day now and mum with underlying conditions (12 weeks isolation for her) I can't help but feel panicky. Maybe I shouldn't be looking in the internet too much also. Don't really know what I'm asking tbh guess I kind of feel rational at points then at other points feel so overwhelmed by it all. Not being doom and gloom for the kids of course but in my head it's all going pretty crazy. Maybe some facts and ideas to help me bit a bit more calm and rational ? Or to know that others are feeling the same xx

If looking at the news, social media, statistics, etc is making you more anxious (and it sounds like it is), then stop.

Also, focus on what you can do rather than the things outside of your control. Right now you can stay home, you can spend time with your kids, you can look after yourself, you can look after your home.

Focus on making positive memories each day and not on what's going on outside.

With respect to death rates, the risk to people with underlying conditions, risk to people without underlying conditions. Something will get us all eventually - but as a rule, we don't wake up thinking about it every day do we? If you take yourself away from the noise of what is going on in the world and focus on you and your family hopefully you'll start feeling a little less anxious.

A very small number of people with no known underlying health conditions will become seriously ill with Corona - just as a very small number of otherwise healthy people do sometimes die as a result of many other illnesses they’d be expected to recover from, or die during routine medical procedures and operations. But it’s unlikely. The media are reporting these deaths precisely because they’re unusual - we aren’t hearing about every single person in their 80s or 90s who’s seriously ill or dying, are we? Rolling news isn’t always helpful. Turn it off and tune in once a day to inform yourself of anything major.

I believe there was a large study of the Italian deaths and it concluded that only around 3% of total deaths were people under 50 with no known health conditions - and I seem to recall that within that 3% were a large proportion of smokers.

Thanks for reply yes I think I defo need to stop reading too much and maybe just watch the news once a day so I'm in the loop and know what's going on but not read it all we've been in for weeks so hopefully I'm doing all the right things. I've got some fence paint in my shed so maybe repainting fence will help. Kids are defo a good distraction during the day it's more the night times. My phone has so many pop ups all the time aswell, maybe I should find a way to stop those and I'm due any day now feel like all this worrying is going to stop me going into labour. Just never known anything like this to happen, it's all so crazy. When the babies here I'm going to be so busy kinda can't wait for sleepless nights lol

Yea I thought about the smokers thing and that Maybe they aren't saying if they are smokers or not or even vapers surely vaping may mot be too good to help fight it. Saw a heavily pregnant lady really ill but guess I shouldn't get too scatty over one as most pregnant lady's seem to be oka. Some people can read it all and be oka guess I just can't read it all right now. Maybe my hormones making me extra sensitive aswel.
Italy seems awful on the news and a really high number. I work for the nhs but currently on maternity waiting for the baby dreading what I'm going back to tbh. Feel really bad not being there to help but at the same time so glad I can stay away to not bring it back to kids.
