Using my son’s ventolin

DS has asthma and is in the shielding group - we have a good supply for him of his meds and ventolin.

I have been ill with suspected CV and very breathless so have been having 2 puffs of ventolin morning and evening as it’s really helping alongside robitussin expectorant once a day.

I know it’s really bad to use someone else’s medicine but it’s just helped relieve the symptoms - I only use it if feel really breathless - doctor was dismissive of my symptoms because I have had no temperature but I have been really ill.

Is it really bad to use small doses of ventolin while I am ill?

Are you depriving your son of the only Ventolin in the house?

Is your son taking a brown 'preventer' inhaler, used to prevent attacks?

Keep an eye on your symptoms, don't come to rely on it and remember the side and long term effects.

Provided you are not depriving him, and he has a backup ventolin, carry on. Obviously don't share!

It's likely you'll have to explain why it has run out quicker than expected as they'll assume he's used it and his asthma has deteriorated.

She can say he lost it. Much better she is treating her own symptoms

It’s a pretty terrible idea to use someone else’s prescription meds, though in an dire situation using someone’s ventolin is sensible as a SHORT term option.
But using it for a few days? No, if you’re symptoms are that bad you need to get medical advice (or try to!). Phone yr GP surgery and get a phone consult again.
