Self Isolation Rules - New Symptoms?

AltheaVestr1t · 28/03/2020 11:00

Not me, but someone I know. I’m not sure the rules are entirely clear. Four person family. Child A had mild symptoms so the family self isolated for 14 days, now coming to an end. Very unlikely to be corona, probably a mild cold. Child B has now developed more severe symptoms that genuinely could be corona. Parents disagree whether or not the family now needs to isolate for another 14 days. Thoughts?

Self Isolation Rules - New Symptoms?

Are they still within the first 14 days isolation? The info I have suggests the 14 days doesnt need to start again but the person with symptoms should isolate for 7 days

yes, isolate again. Only way to be safe/stop further transmissions.

That's a great pic @confusednortherner - I have screenshotted, sometimes the visual really helps people understand.

On the basis that they didn't really think Child A had covid symptoms, but they think Child B genuinely might, I'd personally restart the 14 days.

TheoriginalLEM · 28/03/2020 11:14

Aren't we pretty much all in isolation anyway?

confusednortherner · 28/03/2020 12:10

Thanks Play, I found it far easier that trying to explain when dh couldn't understand what I was telling him!

AltheaVestr1t · 28/03/2020 15:45

@Spam88 that’s exactly what I think, and one of the parents. The other parent agrees with @dementedpixie. It isn’t clear though, is it? Which is worrying, because it means families might well think they are following the advice and start walking round with covid, because the began isolating due to a sniffle. Confused

Where would the other child have got it if they were in self isolation?

AltheaVestr1t · 28/03/2020 23:53

Child B came down sick within 12 days of the family isolating - so not at all impossible that it was caught before. Family also have a dog who I assume will have been walked with caution (I have not asked details of this) or from food deliveries, parcels...who knows?
