Ideas for pastimes for adults in isolation

My adult DD is having to self isolate for 12 weeks on medical advice due to being immuno suppressed. I'm looking for ideas of what people are doing to keep themselves occupied apart from the obvioius house and garden jobs. She does yoga and goes to the gym normally so can obviously do these online. She has a ukelele, adult colouring books, netflix etc but I've got a feeling that she's going to get bored pretty quickly. Very happy to send her stuff via Amazon but no idea what. She's a specialist nurse and in late 20's if that has any bearing. TIA

Does she enjoy reading? You could get her a subscription to Kindle Unlimited if so.

Thank you yes. She has lots of books. Might try jigsaw puzzles actually although she didn't enjoy those as a child. She's not particularly arts and crafty really. Quite sporty and likes football.

There are a lot of virtual football things around at the moment (no idea how they work but keep seeing adverts!) - you could offer to pay for a subscription to an app if she can find one she likes.

A beginners cross stitch kit to make a card.

I do scrapbooking - can get photos delivered. If crafting isn’t her thing maybe photo books from previous events

Hi, my OH is playing board games over the internet with his friends with something called tabletop simulator.

I'm reading ALOT, I've starting planting a mini garden on my balcony and I also have started playing computer games.

My plan for next week is to buy a photograph printer and start printing out all my photos from facebook etc and make photo albums. We will probably never have the opportunity to do this again!

recklessgran · 28/03/2020 13:42

Thanks for all the lovely ideas. That should keep me going for a little while - trying to send her something about once a week. I'll definitely tell her about the virtual football in case she isn't aware. She's quite a keen photographer too and so I really like the photo book/ photo printer ideas. Will also order her a little cross stitch to see what she makes of that. Thank you everyone!

Lots of zoos have set up web cams

National theatre streaming a really brilliant play once a week

NTLive

Yoga etc on internet is fine but I really enjoy doing classes on line 'live' using the zoom app The teacher organised but we get to feel part of a class and say thank you afterwards to a real live group.

Zoom is free to use for meetings up to 40mins at a time. We have been having virtual coffee / tea breaks together.

Does she By chance have a sewing machine? There’s a campaign to sew scrubs on Facebook for hospitals. ‘For the love of scrubs’

Madcats · 28/03/2020 17:16

Is she remotely creative? She has plenty of time to do a stop motion animation film.

Or maybe a bit of time lapse photography?

The daft thing that is cheering me each day is a mushroom growing kit. Probably a pricey way to get mushrooms, but we'll not be short of protein!

Time Out have advertised lots of free places to "visit" and shows and plays to watch.

Wishing her the best.

Thankyou all again especially for all your wishes for my beautiful DD's safety. @Twaddledee that's lovely to know especially as one of her sisters is a doctor and I've just had to get her some more scrubs as the hospital doesn't have enough. Don't even get me started on the lack of PPE! I'm terrified for her and am going to be off my head by the end of this worrying about my lovely kids [5 of them!] all out there trying to make a difference. Have sent one some adult colouring books, another a box of retro sweets and another some posh chocs. This is so difficult. Just want them to know that they are so precious and never out of our minds. Trying times for everyone. I'm really feeling for those with little ones at home as it's so hard when their little world has been turned upside down and they don't understand what's going on. Hat's off to all of you.
