Are non-vaccinated children at more risk?

Hi this may seem like a stupid question to some but I genuinely don’t know the answer and it has been really bothering me.

I’ve spoken on MN before about my NDN who is in general not a nice person and she has 2dc aged 5 and 14 who are not vaccinated as she didn’t want them to “catch autism” which is deeply insulting to many, including myself as an autistic woman only diagnosed last year, and my 17yr old ds.

We’ve had several “discussions” over the years and have agreed to disagree.

Anyway I digress, I have been thinking about whether her children are more likely to contract CV or not and subsequently spread it. They are still going out and about and to sleepovers at family members etc and as the phrase goes- you can’t argue with stupid.

Any thoughts please? Like I said at the beginning of this thread this is a genuine query and is not an anti vaxx bash. My 2 dc are vaccinated like every one else’s that I know of.

Thanks

The short answer is no.

Nobody has any immunity to this disease. It is brand new.

I wouldn't think it would make a difference as the vaccines everyone has are not for corona virus. That is why they are working on a new vaccine.

No-one is more likely or less likely to catch coronavirus as it's a new virus and no-one has any immunity to it. Doesn't matter if you've been vaccinated against every possible other disease, you are still susceptible to it. And of course, other viruses aren't taking a holiday so for those not vaccinated, they are still at risk from those, too.

Non-vaccinated against what? There isn't a vaccine yet for COVID-19.

Oh, you mean MMR? Why didn't you say? Children have lots of vaccinations against other illness doncha know? Smile

Vaccines don't guarantee you won't get the particular illness anyway.

No - but they would be more likely to end up dying of one of the other diseases due to the sheer numbers that are expected to be taking up hospital spaces/the demands on medical staff's time/etc.

And whilst they might 'only' be mildly ill from this virus, try adding a dose of Whooping Cough, Mumps or Measles on top of it at the same time. Or Diptheria. Or Meningitis or Pneumonia. With no access to oxygen/ventilators - or even initially being told 'it's just Coronavirus symptoms, stay at home'.
