Does anyone remember the thread about 4-5 weeks ago where someone asked what we would do if we had a lockdown as such!? Loads of m'netters laughed and said that it wouldn't happen...I'm starting to think we should have listened as such!!?Shock

I've actual had some friends apologise and thank me for not saying "I told you so". Since January I've been slowly preparing for 'something', I have plenty of long life food, bought a few things for the kids (both have access to devices but things like board games, crafts etc) and some more outdoor stuff. My partner moved in and we have a like of DIY we can do together. I had told people this at work, I told them school would need to close (I am a science teacher) and they laughed. Not now, but it has brought us closer I think; we've had lots of supportive conversations and they now know that in an emergency I can probably cover it (I started the greenhouse early this year!)

I started a thread saying we'd be in lockdown soon and what were the rules?

Everyone had a go at me for scaremongering and telling me I was ridiculous.

I was actually just trying to be practical and plan.

MNHQ deleted the thread.

I stockpiled food and nappies to get us through about 3 weeks or so back in February. Dh thought I was a bit mad, but he’s learned to just let it go when I get these ideas in my head. I went and bought books and materials to homeschool several weeks ago too. Dh a bit freaked out now how accurate my predictions have been. I do work in infectious diseases though (but not a clinician so I’m no use at the moment in COVID-19 work, so wfh). I saw this coming a long time ago.

I was visiting the preppers threads and taking notes.
It's not unheard of where I'm from.... so I thought it's reasonable.

There's been a few threads which have seemed really sensible to me but other people have called scaremongering.

crochetandshit · 28/03/2020 09:42

mind so what scenario are you planning for now?
I too have been buying extra since February, including bits and bobs for teens school work.
I think this will go on for the entire summer with certain groups being allowed to return to work first, maybe June time.

I don't know the thread you are referring to OP, but this one from someone insisting we would not be going into lockdown, on the day we went into lockdown, was worth a read

We are not properly locked down. Still many of us working and living a fairly normal life.

I think a lot of people were in denial. I was meant to attend an event of about 30-50 people this weekend - a couple of weeks ago I asked in the event's FB group if it would still go ahead and everyone laughed at me for being silly and panicking, no one thought there would be any risk from meeting as a group. Hmm The event has of course been cancelled...
