Those of you whose teens aren’t currently on their phones in their room 24/7 what sort of routine have they got and what are they doing?

Got to sort something out or I’m going to have brain dead, slugs at the end of this. Don’t know where to start.

DS1 is 15 and is in Year 10. Since Monday he has basically followed his school time table (with the exception of GCSE PE practical as thats slightly tricky!) and worked on those subjects each day on Google Classroom or Seneca. Then at around 4pm every day he goes on a run. Eats with us in the evening then goes and plays Fifa (in place of football practice) with his mates or Facetime's his friends.

Have to say Im shocked at how well he has done...just hope he has the momentum to keep this going. DS2 is 9 and has to stick to a school day through google classroom and is actually being taught at those times so I think thats helped DS1 to focus as well.

Is that private schools @iheartttc?

Seems very keen of the schools?

Mine are getting up around half eight or nine, then checking what school has set them on Google classroom at around 10am - it's homework style, not live lessons. They usually have a couple of days to complete the work. I'd say they are doing about 2 hours a day. No feedback from teachers so far, though they can ask them questions. They are at a state secondary. After they've finished their work they're on their phones, watching YouTube and Tictoc, messaging friends, gaming, pottering about. Then going out each day for cycle ride. In the evening we often watch something on Netlix - all of us. It's not ideal but it's okay.

Nope DS2 goes to a bog standard Junior School (Im a TA there as well). Its honestly amazing what they have done. The teachers are basically teaching the same lessons they would have done in school but remotely. The children have been loaned laptops if they haven't got any (obviously we have a limited number) and they have to either complete the work on Google Classroom or complete it in their book and upload it. All the work is live marked and then returned to them with a comment. Its been hard work this week for both teachers and children (some are in anyway as we are still open for key worker children) but the response from the parents has been amazing. The children also got given Home Learner of the week awards yesterday (they usually have a celebration assembly on a Friday so have carried it on). They have a huge proportion of EAL and PP children so wanted to try and keep some sort of normality.

DS1 has lots of friends in Year 11 and I think everything that has happened over the last few weeks has shocked him. He is very able but very lazy so maybe this has been the push he needed. His is a normal High School as well but they've always had loads of stuff on google classroom anyway so hasn't been a massive thing for them to continue.

I can't guarantee it will carry on always being so positive but Im really impressed so far.

Mine (10,12,13) have been given two 2 hour blocks (10-12, 1-3/2-4) in which I expect them to to do their set work (homework style, not timetabled), music practice, reading) and then they are allowed to do what they like the rest of the time. I expect once daily exercise most days.
They have managed this all week with little supervision (I'm working 3 days a week and DH WFH) and I am immensely proud of them, no complaints or issues at all.
Friends with DCs at other schools have a lot more set work and some have it properly timetabled and are expected to hand it in that day. I'm very glad ours aren't like that!

Mine has the odd video lesson and is doing the work college sets. He goes out for a run every other day and spends the rest of the time on the phone to his best friend playing computer games.

I would prefer it if he spent a bit less time on a screen and say went for a cycle ride on his non-running days but he's not completely wasting his time.

He is a qualified lifeguard and obviously can't do the monthly training at the moment but the RLSS has put some training online, so I am hoping he will do that to keep up his qualification for when the swimming pools reopen.

Mine are year 7 and year 8

Mornings are logging into the school work online, then they can have non electronic free time, then some exercise either joe wicks or a walk or trampoline etc, then lunch, then a bit more work or something like a science experiment or cooking or playing a board game, then they are allowed electronics .
