should my DD isolate for 7 days?

Hi all,

i wanted some advice over this 'continuous cough' symptom. My DD has been coughing all night and was the same the night before but the cough isnt constant throughout the day its on and off. Should i isolate DD (20mo) for 7 days and then isolate myself 14 days? what do i do? Is this a symptom? I dont want to ring 111 if i can help it as i know how much pressure they are under

Thanks

Yes.

A new, continuous cough means: "coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)"

@Haveitheright Thank you. My whole family are telling me you have to have a new cough AND a temperature which the NHS clearly states you dont and its driving me insane trying to explain it to them!

Yes.
Any cough or a temperature.
7 for her 14 for the rest.

Your family are not medical professionals

It is simple and safe so why hesitate?

Pentium85 · 28/03/2020 09:39

7 days for her.
14 for the rest of you.

All this has really made me question the intelligence of the human race as sooooo many people are incapable of understanding something so basic

playthestation · 28/03/2020 09:41

Well yes you shoud, but even without the 7/14 day rule kicking in, are you not isolating anyway? Where does she go? Childminder? Let them know.

Tiredmum100 · 28/03/2020 09:44

Yes, I would self isolate. Also obviously not sure if its only the last 2 nights she has been coughing for but children coughing at night can be a sign of asthma. Happened to my son recently, luckily resolved now and was just a cough I'm not saying this is true in your daughters case but just to make you aware and ti keep an eye on her if it continues.

Isadora2007 · 28/03/2020 09:49

@playthestation why would she be? She can still go to the shops and walk?

why would she be? She can still go to the shops and walk?

Of course. Silly me.

Changedusername3 · 28/03/2020 10:06

@Isadora2007 @playthestation other people in the house have been going to the shop for food ive been self isolating with DD anyway

Ah, not such a silly question after all then!

You don't mention the other people in your OP though, they will also need to self isolate now.

Hope your wee one is better soon

Changedusername3 · 28/03/2020 10:11

@playthestation right now i am questioning if the other family members i live with actually have brains. I don't know how many times i need to gather evidence and advice that says they need to self isolate for 14 days. Its really not that hard not to go to the shop if have to.

Ah, there are so many of them about it seems!

A friend was ranting about people not following guidelines etc then she went on to tell me how she had her FOUR adult DC and 8 bloody grandchildren over on Mother's Day Confused

Changedusername3 · 28/03/2020 10:13

Sorry for not mentioning other family members in the house. I just wrote the post for a quick answer

@playthestation It is so annoying! I have cried with frustration trying to get them to listen to me this morning. I am no longer even wasting a breath, told them to ring 111 if they don't believe me, idiotsAngrySad
