If you’re outside and 2m from from someone but the wind is blowing in your direction...

...can that transmit it?

I know that might sound a ridiculous question but I can’t find the answer online. Surely if someone is 2m away but the wind is blowing from them to you it’s just blowing potential virus particles at you, or does it not work like that?

For God sake, why don’t you go out with a bag over your head then?

Wannabangbang · 28/03/2020 09:06

I was thinking same yesterday, we had very high winds. Surely their germs will travel up into the air

Snowflakes1122 · 28/03/2020 09:08

I was wondering this too. Man was other side of the fence coughing lots when dc was on the trampoline at the other side. He has taken to sitting there lots.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/03/2020 09:13

Maybe. So perhaps don't walk beside non-household people in a crosswind, and if passing hold your breath a moment. Easy enough to do, may be OTT but better safe than sorry.

LIZS · 28/03/2020 09:18

Probably only if they cough in the same direction as the wind is blowing. Seems very low risk though.

Glad I’m not the only one wondering this!

yes and smokers, they are literally blowing out their smoke and it floats and travels in the air for quite a distance. I was in a supermarket queue the other day and there was a smoker behind me and I knew I was breathing in her smoke but it was impossible not to.

I think smoking in public should be banned at the moment and tbh the ban should never be lifted.

Porcupineinwaiting · 28/03/2020 14:07

Of course. It's just a low risk, rather than no risk. 2m is pretty arbitrary anyway, virus doesnt just curl up and die when it gets 2m away from its host mores the pity.

Pleasedontdothat · 28/03/2020 14:11

It would be a minuscule risk and really not one worth worrying about. There’s nothing magic about 2 metres - in Germany it’s 1.5 metres and despite having more confirmed cases the death rate is much lower there.

Probably better to stay inside if its windy, infact lock yourself in with all weathers.
