This probably sounds really small fry in the midst of things and there must be other people in this situation but I've been thinking about this for the last couple of months.

I lost 3 cats on my road at different times over a couple of years - the last was Bruce when my daughter was a month old (she's 8 now). Bruce came bounding across the road when I was on my way out and he was run over in front of me - it was horrendous.

I think I could only take on a house cat.. The thing is I am incredibly lonely when my kids aren't here in the lockdown.. And it would be good for the kids as well as me to take the edge of these dark times.

Does anyone know of a forum or FB group where I can rehome a house cat? I'm imagining in the current situation many are being left without homes. Also - not sure how it would work with daily walk etc

Grateful for any advice.

Not walking the cat ! I mean receiving/collecting it. I also don't have a car atm so would need to meet locally or 'delivered'.

Most charities are still doing adoptions, and changing their procedures to suit the new situation (doing house checks by video calls etc.)

However, if you live in a house and have kids, it's almost impossible to have an indoor cat. Do you ever leave the back door open to the garden in the summer when you're all in and out of the house? If so, you can't have an indoor cat... Having an indoor cat basically means being extremely careful with windows and doors, otherwise you risk an escape.

Can you look into catproofing your garden instead? Look up Sanctuary SOS and ProtectaPet to see how it works, I know people who've done their own DIY version too based on that system.

Thanks. I've had three cats before. There will be an influx of felines that can't be looked after and I just want to give one a home.
Can't bare the thought of a cat being out down when it could have lived with me. Been thinking about it for a while and wasn't sure whether to commit but I'm ready 😻

I think that’s a lovely idea. I’m sure you will be able to rehome one. I’ve got 2 cats, one a house cat and the other a cat that loves to go outside. Never had an issue with the house cat even wanting to go outside! When I went to the cat and dog home I asked for one suitable as a house cat and they had a few. She was the most terrified cat ever and was being overlooked by everyone. I had to take her! A few months of me letting her take her time and get used to us she is the best cat ever. I have a young kid and he completely gets that she doesn’t get outside and he’s really careful with shutting doors! x
