My dad died yesterday (not covid19) and my mum is on her own 3 hours away. I have been working in a school with key worker children up until Thursday. I don’t want to risk passing cv 19 to my mum but also feel awful that she is alone at this time. She is pretty strong and says she’s ok.
We have started to self isolate as a household for two weeks to make sure we’re not incubating anything, and I then thought I could drive down to stay with her, but my mum has said this morning even this would be risky. Plus it might be the peak of the pandemic and I wouldn’t be allowed to.

I don’t know what to do!! Any advice?

I should add that my mum is under 70 but has had cancer twice (10 years ago) - I don’t know if that puts her in vulnerable category.

Very sorry about ur loss :(
it is risky since you are working outside the house and this is not in the allowed set of excuses :( esp if you cant just go and stay there for good as you are teaching, and need to go back

Facetiming regularly will keep her safe and give her the chance to talk

Thank you. Yes, that’s what we both think. It’s just such awful timing.

I would be desperate to go. You would need to self isolate for at least two weeks. Or one week and get a test?

Don’t just go tho. Sorry. So risky.

I am so sorry for your loss.
I would stay put, I’m so sorry. Many, many phone calls and FaceTimes.
I’m so sorry.

ellie2201 · 28/03/2020 08:10

But after two weeks, it might still not be safe? I will wait and see. My mums health is the most important thing and we are made of strong stuff mentally so will be ok.
Thanks xx

I would say could move in with her but to be honest I think you’d be putting her at risk.

Make sure she’s in touch with her local mutual aid group and keep in touch as much as you can.

I’m so sorry for your loss Flowers

Sorry to hear about your father Flowers You sound very sensible, as does your mother.

Thanks all x

I’m SO sorry to hear about your Dad 🌷

Your Mum sounds pretty ‘together’ from what you’ve said.

I would do as you intended and isolate as a family for 14 days (though technically you could still be carrying it). Anything being delivered treat like it’s infected and deal with it appropriately. Really clean, regularly, all surfaces etc (it’s apparently as much about a good scrub as it is about the bleach. So I’m cleaning everything with a good scrub then wiping with a strong bleach mix, leaving things wet, so it takes a few minutes to dry naturally)

Than see how your Mum is doing and decide from there.

You’re still currently permitted to hold funerals, but there are rules in place.

I really feel for you and your mum. It’s a horrible thing to go through anyway, but when you can’t physically be there for your mum it must be so much worse.

Big virtual hugs 🌷
