If you are still working is your work encouraging correct social distancing?

With the PM and Health Secretary coming down with CV it does make you question how effective social distancing really is, and if it's even possible in most workplaces. At my job it would be difficult but not impossible to maintain the 2m at all times. People are moving around a lot and you have got used to doing things in ways that may not be 2m apart at all times. The management wouldn't stop you if you made more effort to keep apart but I noticed everyone was crowded round the table at lunch time and nothing was said for instance. What is the situation at your workplace?

It’s impossible at mine. Far too many people in the warehouse and factory

I’m back at work on Monday, we work in small offices, we are now on a rota system so there is only one person per office per day. They have also provided antiviral wipes and sprays so you can wipe everything down when you arrive.

Not really. We’re staying apart but there’s still shared food out in the kitchen, drinks and desks and too much chatter. I couldn’t put my finger on why the jolly chatter was getting on my nerves so much then came across a case of a choir of 60, no symptoms socially distanced choir practice and handwashing and 45 contracted it. I think there’s a cognitive dissonance going on whereby because people think they’re permitted to be in work they’re safe. I’ve emailed the boss suggesting we stop behaving as if it’s a fucking cocktail partyminimise interactions in the office.

As well as they can do. I’m a medical receptionist in a fair sized team (altho we’re dropping like flies right now) and we have to wear gloves to handle paperwork which must be changed every time we finish a task, we must anti bac our desks before and after each session (we all move around), we must change before leaving work to go home, we must used the hand gel often and we’re supposed to be keeping a 2m distance (this one is tricky!).
There’s still shared food in the break room though which I’m avoiding like the plague now (might finally lose some weight!) and lots of the staff still converge in there to have their breaks, which seems counter productive. I go outside and enjoy the sun on my own instead Grin

No, I work in a nursery and its just not possible.
The office, the entrance and the kitchen are all less than 2 metres wide or long, so its impossible to not be in the same space as others
Then, there's nappy changing, taking children to the toilet, changing from accidents, helping them wash hands, feeding babies, and the list goes on

Employment Rights Act 1996 section 100 subsection 1 (d) protects against dismissal for not working in these circumstances.

No one should be forced to risk there health. Especially if your job is not essential. Are you going to work to help the country or to make bosses/shareholders richer. If the latter - I would refuse. They can sack you and you can sue them.

I know it's not ideal way around things but it may save your life or someone around you.
