Yes a few weeks ago. Self isolated but it's frustrating not knowing...

middleager · 28/03/2020 07:23

One of sons had a fever for two days. Hot and cold. Also felt slighly dizzy. He's never ill.

We have no way of knowing.
That was about 10 days ago and none of the (3) others in our house have experienced symptoms yet and if we don't, then clearly it was something else.

Mothersday2020 · 28/03/2020 07:32

It's very strange...also what is considered a fever?

MiracletoCome · 28/03/2020 07:34

I think it is about 37.5C

Navy123 · 28/03/2020 07:37

Yep I had high fever and chills/sweats, also loss of appetite and energy. Was tested last night as I had to go in to hospital for something else anyway so I guess I'll know if it was 'it' or not!

Mothersday2020 · 28/03/2020 07:38

Mines 37.4....so only just but I can feel it

AliciaWhiskers · 28/03/2020 07:41

I thought they had said a fever was 37.8 or above.

Imapotato · 28/03/2020 07:42

37.8 or above is classed as a fever in adults.

awkwardbuttons · 28/03/2020 07:44

Fever is 37.8 or above. I've had a fever for 2 days (38.9 and last night maybe higher), chills, sweats and a mild sore throat. Nothing in my chest. So not sure what it is.

@Navy123, could you come back and update please? Hope you're feeling better!

MiracletoCome · 28/03/2020 07:47

Yes it does sound a bit high, its the sort of temperature that often goes with a cold - I only know this because whenever DH gets a sniff or manflu the thermometer is constantly in his mouth and I get a running commentary on it and he takes great delight in telling me how ill he is as his temperature is 37.7 or 8 or whatever. This was before CV was heard of

Hopefully you just have a mild illness but keep an eye on it.

MiracletoCome · 28/03/2020 07:49

There are varying reports of what constitutes a fever, I think 37.5 is the lowest but some are as high as 38

mne13 · 28/03/2020 07:57

I have a horrible dry cough which developed yesterday, I've had a tight feeling in my chest the past few days!
I was sent home from work yesterday but feel like a bit of a fraud as it really is just a cough!
I know the reasons why myself and kids have to isolate but it's frustrating not knowing for sure

mne13 · 28/03/2020 07:57

That's the only symptoms I have no temp or anything

TeddyTeddy · 28/03/2020 08:01

I had a raging fever for two days, felt absolutely awful and developed a cough, but I don’t think it was the same crushing cough as Coronavirus. Anyway, for reasons too tedious to explain I was tested and came back negative. There are still bugs going around.

mumtumdocare · 28/03/2020 08:01

I had this for 24 hours. Then my sense of smell and taste went entirely for one week.

ofwarren · 28/03/2020 08:04

I've had the opposite. No temperature (felt flushed though) but had all the other typical symptoms.
I'm on day 5 and feeling a lot better already.
Still coughing a lot and have pain in my lungs.

Navy123 · 28/03/2020 08:06

@awkwardbuttons will do - I’m quite interested to know, wasn’t expecting to get tested! Feeling much better too, thanks.

ofwarren · 28/03/2020 08:12

@navy121
Did they say how long it will take to get the result?

nickblainesmistress · 28/03/2020 11:42

Some are as high as 38? I'd say 38 was mild. My son gets temps of over 40!!

MiracletoCome · 28/03/2020 11:51

I meant 38 as the highest for the threshold of a temperature, it seems to be anything between 37.5 and 38 but usually 37.8 for an adult. a high temperature can be over 40

ChanklyBore · 28/03/2020 12:04

Depends on what temp you usually are, your age/sex, where you are taking the temperature, and what you are taking it with.

I have an underarm thermometer. If I take my own temperature it usually reads 36.1-36.3, which is on the higher end of normal. 35.2 is considered within normal range for an adult using an underarm - 34.7-37.3 normal for a baby using underarm. Can you see the massive range?

My child’s is usually 36-36.1 on the underarm thermometer, so when it recorded 38.3 repeatedly she definitely had a fever.

If you or your child is normally 37.5 and you are using an ear thermometer you might register a 39.5-40 for a fever.
If you you or your child is normally 35.5 and you are using a mouth thermometer, you might register a 37.5-38 for a fever.
Same increase. Without the baseline it’s not very helpful, you may as well not have a thermometer (which I didn’t for years but got one for this and now am abnormally interested in it)

bathsh3ba · 28/03/2020 12:07

Both my daughters had a low grade fever for a week, 24 hours of shivering and sweats but then felt fine although temp was up and down for the rest of the week. A week on we are out of household isolation. No idea if that was coronavirus of course but it's certainly unusual for them.
