35 weeks pregnant - can I register as vulnerable to get online shopping delivered?

Utterlybutterly8 · 28/03/2020 05:58

Does anyone know if I fall into that category? DH is having to go to the shops fairly regularly as neither of us drive, and I’m terrified that he’ll get the virus and pass it onto me.

It appears not - you need to be pregnant with underlying health issues (I tried earlier). I was hoping that we might be able to but it appears we've just been left off the list despite earlier warnings.

Bubblesbubblesmybubbles · 28/03/2020 07:27

Although we are vulnerable we arent in the incredibly vulnerable list the government has given out (as i think that just wouldnt be realistic) so sadly we dont count

IsolaPribby · 28/03/2020 07:32

The government website where you register as vulnerable definitely lists being pregnant!
There is a list of conditions, where you need to tick one, and the bottom one says pregnant, or have heart disease etc.
Definitely have a look, sorry haven't got the link to the form to post. Flowers

www.gov.uk/coronavirus-extremely-vulnerable

Here it is.

pickledsausage · 28/03/2020 07:35

I’m pregnant and my husband is diabetic, really hoping the information that the government are sharing with the supermarkets this week includes us all! We’ve been self isolating but absolutely dreading the first trip to the supermarket ☹️

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 28/03/2020 07:37

"are pregnant, and have a significant congenital or acquired heart disease", so the pregnancy above did not count unfortunately. We're in the same boat...

MsChatterbox · 28/03/2020 07:38

Oh wow I didn't know we didn't count. I was planning on completely self isolating until I gave birth 😔. Another option is deliveroo? I hear they're doing supermarkets now.

youcantellthem · 28/03/2020 07:42

Thanks for this @isola I hadn't realised there was an online form.
I have completed it as DH meets two of the criteria, although hasn't received a shielding letter.
Do you know what happens with this? Do we get priority for supermarket deliveries?

Undomesticgodde55 · 28/03/2020 07:44

To be fair I'm normally fit and well. Currently 29 weeks and I wouldn't class myself as needing extra help at this time. It sucks but there are people a lot worse off who really need them slots.

Hello fresh are still up and running if you want to make sure you have a few meals in, it's expensive though.

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 28/03/2020 07:45

You should have received a text and a letter if younfall, intimthe exceptionally vulnerable 'shield' group.

The printed letters are signed off by your GP practice, so that's probably where to start if you think you should have qualified. It's not all of the vulnerable who qualify for government assistance on this, just the exceptionally vuknerable (list already linked above)

Online supermarkets are still sorting out which of their customers are in that group - it's quite a difficult time for those looking at 12 weeks minimum total isolation

iVampire · 28/03/2020 07:49

‘ Do we get priority for supermarket deliveries?’

I am in the ‘shield’ group and have yet to secure any priority access.

Once in the shield group however you won’t starve as you qualify for the government food delivery scheme. You’ll find it quicker to go down that route.

TwittleBee · 28/03/2020 07:51

Yeah I was hoping I would count as Vulnerable as my waters have broken early and I've been told that if I get any illness at all I'll need hospital admittance and consideration of delivering baby early. But nope.

Really not great times to be pregnant is it. I suppose at least I dont feel left out with my prescribed rest now as everyone is having to stay indoors. Just frustrates me I'm unable to safely get supplies delivered - cant even find any tenner ladies or maternity pads atm and need them as only last few! Not sure how I'm to soak up my constant flow of water otherwise.

IsolaPribby · 28/03/2020 07:54

I found this via a link on the Sainsbury's website. I filled it out on behalf of my 80 year old Mum, who was having trouble with it. I remember the question about being pregnant as I read it several times without getting past the word pregnant, and thinking that my Mother didn't fit any of the criteria. When I looked again it says pregnant or have heart disease etc.
My Mum has not had a letter, but her GP surgery is pretty crap at the best of times.

iVampire · 28/03/2020 07:58

My risk of death if I catch it is (guessed at) around 10%

Trust me, you don’t want to be in this group. I’m on day 6 of a minimum 84 day stretch. Not going beyond my home whatsoever, for any purpose other than medical tests which have to be done in person is not easy

And I have yet to secure any form of priority delivery slot booking, despite enquiries to both supermarket (where I am existing, longstanding customer) and via the hub. I have no more orders in the pipeline, cannot get answers to queries and am beginning to get a little shrill

You can however get a standard food parcel rapidly.

LassoOfTruth · 28/03/2020 08:01

Bit frustrating, but it seems no. I tried too (I'm asthmatic too so thought I might get away with it) but no. Certainly I don't want to take slots away from the really vulnerable but I am scared that my husband will bring the virus home.

MsChatterbox · 28/03/2020 20:13

Apparently on Monday pregnant (without another condition) will be added! Heard through the grapevine don't have a source!

scaevola · 28/03/2020 21:28

"Apparently on Monday pregnant (without another condition) will be added!"

For 12 weeks full isolation, and no trips beyond your own home at all?

That'll go down like a bucket of cold sick.

(Especially as being on the shield list has not yet translated into supermarket priority)

LittleLittleLittle · 28/03/2020 21:39

You really do not want to be in the shield group especially if you are about to give birth.

You are strongly advised to distance from the people you live with. If you have a baby or young toddler it isn't possible to distance from them or your partner.

There are other restrictions which only really work if you have a spare bedroom and an extra bathroom.

Bubblesbubblesmybubbles · 29/03/2020 08:02

Unless they change it for shielded people for their partners in key worker roles to not go to work either then realistically shielding when pregnant with existing DC especially toddlers is pretty much impossible

Bubblesbubblesmybubbles · 29/03/2020 08:10

I take that back before i cause uproar......shielding for ANY reason is neigh on impossible with children and partners in a key worker role

Utterlybutterly8 · 29/03/2020 08:26

Sounds like the answer to my question is no then Sad Thanks all. I will just have to pray that DH doesn’t catch it when he’s out getting food!

OP posts:
FlockofGulls · 29/03/2020 08:37

If your DH and you think it through and take precautions you should be ok. He can wear gloves, practice physical distancing, wash his hands thoroughly first thing on coming home - really, first thing he does - and then use a bleach or soapy water to wipe down door handles etc.

As a normal healthy young person you are probably going to be ok. Just think through the ways to kill the virus - it’s a primitive protein - it’s destroyed by by the lipids in soap, for example.

Utterlybutterly8 · 29/03/2020 08:39

Thanks @Flock. We’re taking precautions but I’m still very nervous. But there’s nothing more we can do apart from hope for the best.

OP posts:
Bubblesbubblesmybubbles · 29/03/2020 08:48

I know how you feel @Utterlybutterly8 as I'm pregnant too and worrying about it. DH is also a key worker which doesnt help but we are doing our absolute best to do everything right
