Fuck me, if mine rolls her eyes any further into the back of her head, she might find her last remaining brain cells.

They way she’s carrying on, you would think I single handily created coronavirus myself! Hmm

And how fucking hard is it for her to just open her damn window?! If you’re going to sit in your room with the door closed for weeks on end, OPEN THE FUCKING WINDOW! YOUR ROOM SMELLS LIKE A CORPSE!

Parents of teens - are you ok?!!!!!!!????!!!

GreenTulips · 28/03/2020 23:09

No worries about my teenagers hanging out in groups, they barely leave their rooms and seem to be rocking bed head/pj chic.

Apparently they're doing their school work, my youngest (13) was actually on line today helping his younger cousin, which was actually really lovely.

I do need to crack the whip though, I'm working from home as is their Dad and I'm busier than ever. I do a job's list which none of them read Hmm They need to help out waaaaay more than they do.

If you hear screams on Monday it'll be them doing some housework WinkI hope

Scruffyoak · 28/03/2020 23:13

My 14yr dd has been just pure horrid.

Littlemiss74 · 28/03/2020 23:16

Following in desperation

Oh wow thank god I've found my people: long suffering parent of teen(s) Grin. Arguments this week have included:

  1. How utterly ridiculous I am for not allowing ds (14) to go to the park to play football. This one went on for an absurd amount of time despite me very clearly telling him (a) this is now government ruling not just me being awkward and (b) locked!
  2. How utterly ridiculous I am for removing the PlayStation controllers and not returning them until school work is done and he stops being rude to everyone
  3. How utterly ridiculous I am for not stockpiling adequate snacks/junk food
  4. How utterly ridiculous his brother (10) is for doing his school work
  5. How utterly ridiculous this whole situation is because he will miss playing his sport.

Reading this thread I'm bloody relieved we have a very strict no food upstairs rule and there isn't a 2nd tv in our house for his gaming so he needs to come to the living room and can't when someone else is working in there or already on it (Joe PE Has his uses!) . Actually, today wasn't too bad and my kids did manage a whole afternoon in the garden playing cricket and on the trampoline TOGETHER without killing each other which hasn't happened in a long time.

Can I ask advice on here please ? DS (13) mainstream with SEN. Supported by a learning support assistant in lessons. Has lots of homework set. Learning support rang me on Friday to ask how he is and to focus on core subjects. Then we had a message from one teacher (not a core subject )last night at 8.30pm !! via the app. It says why haven't you done the quiz and if you don't contact me I will be contacting your parents. AIBU to think this is really not acceptable? we are trying to keep him safe and do some work in difficult circumstances. Managing his behaviour and anxiety from loss of all activities and routine

FamilyOfAliens · 29/03/2020 08:44

I’ve about heard of this sort of thing at our local over-subscribed outstanding secondary school. The parent concerned contacted the school and told them not to message him after 7pm as he goes to bed at 7.30pm (year 8, SEND).

OnTheMoors · 29/03/2020 08:53

It is unacceptable to threaten kids like this at any time. To do it in this crisis situation is disgusting

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 29/03/2020 08:55

Ds shall be a teenager in 6 months

He is as happy as Larry

Enjoying is online learning as it’s a novelty and now on school holidays

He will have to attend school two or three a week which he doesn’t like and went in this week but I don’t think it was as bad as he made out just he would rather be at home

But rest of time he is lounging about gaming and snacking all day

I worry that he is spending too much time alone but for now all isn’t as bad as I thought it would be for him and he is happy

Paperdolly · 29/03/2020 09:15

Have a browse online about Adolescent Brain Changes and you’ll see that their brains don’t work the same as an adults. Not until their 20s ( and sometimes never in some cases 🙄). You’ll realise that getting stressed and uptight is pointless and causing you more harm than you need right now. I feel your pain but care about your adult mental health.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 29/03/2020 09:33

My 14 yo dd hasn't been too bad, she is sleeping in every day until nearly lunchtime 🙄 but is doing school work and reading a fair bit.

She's actually being nicer to me than usual and I'm wondering if that's because I'm the only person she now sees!!

Travelban · 29/03/2020 09:46

Dd(15) much better than normal in the week, she finally tidied and organised plus cleaned her room, and done her work but by the weekend she seemed very moody and argumentative, she says she misses her friends. She hasn't left her room much. In fairness when me and her dad went to each a film she emptied and filled the dishwasher... A first there.

Ds (13) hasn't left his room much, does the bare minimum homework wise and I have tried to encourage him to read (not much luck so far). It's going to be interesting during the Easter break.

Younger two mostly OK although the 10 year old keeps making things involving food, glue or any messy variety and the cleaning has gone wild.

Give me strength 💪

mondaynoon · 29/03/2020 09:52

Girliefriendlikespuppies my DS is being better than normal too! I don't think he's said 'I hate you' all week.

He hasn't left the house since Sunday though so I might have to annoy him by dragging him out today!

MamaGee09 · 29/03/2020 09:55

My 2 have been great, they thin’ it’s Christmas! They’ve both done basic school/uni work. Loving the no routines, long lies, late nights. They have watched copious amounts of films, chatted to friends on line, played computer games and are never away from the fridge,.

Neither have been out the door since last Sunday and we have no problems with plates as I don’t allow them to take food to their rooms, the o my argument we’ve had is ds talks to his friends through a headset on the computer and he gets a bit loud!

It’s dh and that are bickering the most..... not the teenagers! Neither of us are used to being home for so long,

BlackeyedSusan · 29/03/2020 09:57

you bastard op... do you know how difficult it is to get cornflakes out of one's nose...

some of your posts need a health warning... no eating or drinking whilst reading...

maybe not corona virus, but some of them will be starting the next couple of pandemics by the sound of it.

my teen... studying, being lovely,

I am reading for survival tips for hormonal autistic not quite teen but been practising for the last 4 years... and trying to find what is normal.

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 29/03/2020 09:58

My main struggle is getting him to study the 3-4 hours he should be doing a day, especially when there only a once a week school contact.

With regards to his room.. yes, it is a mess (and always had been) so instead of pestering about it at this time, I am just doing a quick tidy up/ventilating while he is studying. Yes, he should be doing it and normally I demand for him to do it, but if we are going to have a fight about it several times a day it is going to be worse for both of us in the long run than the five minutes it takes me to put it back in order (within reason). At the end of the day we cannot get away from each other so I don’t want to bring more anger and resentment about this.

Other than that, he is fine. He seems to have a lot of practice in isolation: Sleeps late, watch movies in Netflix, plays with his friends in the Xbox and is even discussing school work with friends when he is studying. He had not asked to go out as there is nobody out, he is doing exercise indoors so I guess, at this time, the only thing I need to remind him is not to eat lo what is in the fridge and to try to sit under the sun once a day.

BlackeyedSusan · 29/03/2020 10:03

yeah, its my fault the internet is not working. not the fact that we are all using the internet at the same time, along with the rest of the bloody world.

my fault that the food is shit and boring...

Littlemiss74 · 29/03/2020 10:10

Thank God for MN! Speaking to friends about how it’s going has been making me feel like a complete and utter failure as my dc’s have been so challenging whereas they all seem to be in some amazing Mary Poppins like routine!
Never mind the fact I’m trying to work from home amongst the chaos with an increased workload.
Thank goodness for this thread to give me a much needed laugh and make me feel I am not alone!!

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 29/03/2020 10:19

This is an actual screenshot of a text exchange with my dd.

We're all in this together op. And yes, they do go from chanting mum to texting it. 😭😭😭😂😂😂

Elizabeth110100 · 29/03/2020 11:15

All I get from my teenagers is "oh my god there's like nothing to eat in the house". There is plenty to eat, just not the snacky crap they want.

ScorpionQueen · 29/03/2020 11:21

And I have to give up the living room once a day for workouts! But no, you can't go for a walk...
Disney plus with teen girls has been a life saver though. Reliving their Hannah Montana days.

JustW1lliam · 29/03/2020 11:23

I hear you re the snacky crap whining. I buy them 3 x snacky crap each a week. That will be ending if they don’t do daily exercise.

OvaHere · 29/03/2020 12:05

Oh God the moaning about food!

I have 3 teen boys and squabbling about food was bad enough before this. They all try and hide snacky stuff from each other, eldest thought he had it sorted by using the vegetable drawer but he's been rumbled. I keep finding cans of diet coke in random places. Grin

We can't be far off Lord of the Flies here!
