Can someone explain the 80% government wage

As in title can someone please explain more to me about it and if I qualify.

I've been with the company for over a year and while we have work and classed as key workers we have very little work. I've been off this week anyway with another medical condition and on Monday I received the text staying to remain at home for minimum of 12 weeks.
Do work have to agree to pay me the 80% if I'm being told to self isolate or would it go down as sick and only get ssp.

I'm happy to take the 80% wage and not bothered if they don't top the other 20% up. We can survive just about on ssp and dh wage as we have some savings but I hate running our savings down to virtually nil as I like to have some money as a back case in case of a breakdown on car or household appliance.

Sorry so long and thank you in advance to anyone who can help and explain it more to me.

I think you're ok for 80% of your normal wage

Your work is under no obligation to apply for the 80%. It's not designed for people who have to self isolate, it's for people who have officially been furloughed due to lack of work to do. So unless your work furlough you and apply for the 80% then there's not much you can do, you will likely only get sick pay.

Basically it is up to the employer if they want to apply for it or not. The reason many of them won't is because the grant is not available yet and won't be until the end of April at the earliest. This means your employer will have to continue to pay you themselves and then claim the money back when the grant is available. If there isn't a lot of work coming in then some employers won't be able to afford to be out of pocket.

Thank you.

We have hardly any work. One of our drivers normally does 40-45 drops a day and this week I've been told his doing 4 to 5 drops.

Without outing myself too much incase I have colleagues on here. We deliver to pubs/restaurants/cafes/take away places so you can imagine how much work we have at the moment.

If I need to use my savings I will at the end of the day what's good having savings incase this breaks down if I'm too ill to even use it.

It's worth asking your employer if they will furlough you instead. I've been furloughed and will get the 80%, I have lovely employers though!

I think I will have a chat when I get in on Monday.
