How will the supermarket allocation of delivery slots to vulnerable people work?

I’ve been placing grocery orders from Morrison’s for my mother and aunt who live several hours away. Mother late 80s & aunt has major medical condition, so they can’t go out. I place the orders through my account & have them delivered to their addresses. This idea of a list of vulnerable people - those eligible for delivery slots- worries me- how will I get them onto it? Where is it? Who is on it? Will I be unable to order for them?
Neither of them can talk on the phone - far too deaf. Neither has internet and they can’t possibly place their own orders, the idea is ridiculous. Has anyone dealt with this problem? Any advice?

You get on it by registering as a vulnerable person. My understanding is that you have to be on the shielding list to qualify not just vulnerable.

I’m on the shielding list but haven’t heard from any supermarket. I can’t get a delivery slot at all.

I’m in the same position. Various accounts at supermarkets all in my name that I use for my father. He’s 86 and is vulnerable. I’ve tried to open accounts in his name but supermarkets don’t seem to be allowing new accounts.
I’m basically refreshing Tesco every few minutes to see if slots come up. I’ve given up with Sainsbury’s. You can register with them as vulnerable but as far as I can see only if you’re in England.
Im using a local dairy for milk, eggs and bread and I’m praying that a Tesco slot becomes available soon.
It’s really hard. There will be local volunteers to deliver food

Iceland do all sorts a week in advance but I cant work out when their slots come out as they're always full.

Maybe some method that allows them to cross reference those that received the NHS text? Then another way to cross reference the over 70's, maybe with a unique code?

Admittedly most people still working in authority that give a shit have other priorities right now, and supermarket directors would want to weigh up whether the profit was worth the effort. But there must be plenty of perfectly capable people currently furloughed or with much reduced work loads that could figure out and implement the technology.

Not sure if this helps but I shop at Sainsburys. I'm under 70 but have heart disease. I had an email from them yesterday to say they had identified me as vulnerable from their records. I can only deduce that they identified me because that's where I get my repeat prescriptions sent to. I've copied the relevant bit of the email: "
How have we identified vulnerable customers?
We've been able to identify you and other customers through the information that we have. This includes things like your date of birth, where we know it, and if you've ever used our vulnerable customer phone line.
But we know that we haven't been able to identify all of our vulnerable customers. Going forward, we're working with the government to prioritise the nation's most vulnerable people, but you'll still have access to any available slots."

I'm in the shielding group. I had notification from the NHS on Monday and registered on the government site saying I needed help with shopping on Tuesday.

I have contacted all of the online supermarkets to let them know I need to be shielded and I am on the government list, but none of them have bothered to reply to me.

I've spent hours today refreshing web pages looking for delivery slots but haven't been able to find one. I've even tried click and collect as that is less risky than going to the shops, but they are all full too.

I don't really know how it is going to work if everything is fully booked already. I'll probably just end up risking it going to the shops.

Have you tried local shops @YorkshirePuddingsGreatestFan I can’t get a delivery but a cafe in the next village is doing food deliveries. The selection is narrow but I’m happy just to avoid the shops.

OP I have no idea how the government compile their list of vulnerable people, but you can certainly register on someone's behalf

OP I suspect that the government list is only on its way to the supermarkets. And I wonder if it will be necessary to order in your relatives' names in future? You can still pay though. That's my best bet for how it will work
