Work colleagues not sticking to 2 metre distancing

Even supermarkets are now strictly keeping to the two metre social distancing rule. Yet where I work it just goes out the window, as though it doesn't apply. People stand a foot away from me, pull their chairs up next to your desk and blatantly ignore it. What is so surprising is I work in a gp surgery and the gps are the worst offenders literally huddled in groups and standing over people's desks. It's a strssful enough environment without feeling more at risk from your work colleagues than patients! Anyone else experiencing this at work?

It's the same at my work, caring for disabled children. Obviously we have to get close to them but the staff cant really social distance either. Worse still is that there are different staff each shift!

Same at my job it's ridiculous! I think about 1 or 2 are and that's it

I don't know if people think they are immune at work or what!! It's very frustrating. Think I am going to say something to the practice manager (who is also not social distancing!).

If you are desk based, can you reinforce the distance physically?

So, for example, a table in front of your desk ? Or X's marked on the floor with tape to indicate appropriate distance ?

Nettii1971 · 28/03/2020 14:59

I'm in a small office, was two of us but now just me (because of social distancing) Very good idea with the tape. Put an x on each person's floor in their office. I doubt very much it would stop the GPs approaching people. I think i need to be more forceful about it and make it clear that no matter who you are you need to stick to it. I think doctors are so used to being close to patients who are sick so they are forgetting that this applies to them now too. They have a lot to worry about right now, I don't want to add to their stress but this is potentially people's lives.

GP surgery here too, yes we are terrible, we keep forgetting because you can't be 2m away from patients for most things. We do keep remembering and stepping back from each other, but it's so difficult not to slip back.
Easier for the admin staff as they don't have to have close contact with patients so maybe are better at keeping their distance. But as a nurse I can admit I'm shit at this and so are our GPs!

I’m a nanny, I can’t keep 2 meters away from the baby or young children

teenagetantrums · 28/03/2020 15:30

I work in a care home to be honest nobody doing 2meters. It's just not possible. I guess myself and the 6 colleagues l work with all the time will get it all together.

teenagetantrums · 28/03/2020 15:33

Oh and my DP works at a supermarket. All the staff close together when putting out delivery and on break. I guess this is what it comes down to. People in minimum wage jobs can always be 2meters away but if we don't work other people can't stay home.

teenagetantrums · 28/03/2020 15:34

Can't not can,. I still have no idea why there is no edit button on Mumsnet

Sunshine1239 · 28/03/2020 15:38

Does it actually apply to work given it’s “social” distancing ? I mean hospital staff etc couldn’t do this
