Anyone else in the same boat, regarding upcoming Easter school trips abroad?
Brief search mentions that they will have to pay out in full for the refund as that is the current law.
"An estimated two million overseas package holidays were due to depart in the first 30 days of the government’s warning against non-essential travel, running from 17 March to 16 April 2020. They have all been cancelled – representing around £1bn that the law insists should be paid back to consumers."
But the recently received email below from the school mentions no pay outs so far (could be due to none being made/requested).
Please see statement from Local school county council below,
Local school county council, insurance department has suggested we file a claim with their insurers. They cannot guarantee a refund will be available. It is the insurer’s decision and the insurers will not comment until such time as the claim form and full facts are in front of them.
The travel restriction for overseas trips has been in place for 30 days from the 17th March, so we are following Government advice to cancel, as things stand no travel is allowed for the dates mentioned. If we postpone we have no guarantees we can claim on the insurance in the future.
This situation is unprecedented and ABTA and ATOL and others are changing their advice constantly. I know in the press there are stories that the Government has given emergency funding to pay for these trips and that insurers have paid claims without a problem both of which are not true. As far as Local school county council insurance department are aware the Insurers have not settled any claims already lodged.
We want to take this opportunity to thank you again for your relentless patience and understanding at this time. Please rest assured that we are doing everything that we can to ensure that your funds are returned to you as swiftly as possible.
