Ocado Anytime Smart Pass holders - have you received priority access yet?

Email sent to anytime pass holders (at least) on Thursday

-
We have experienced such extraordinary levels of demand in recent days that despite our best efforts, we simply have not had enough capacity to serve all our customers.
To put it into context, practically every Ocado customer, no matter how infrequently they may have shopped previously, is now looking to place an order every week. At the same time, with families at home, the average size of orders has almost doubled. This means there is an unceasing level of demand several times our current delivery capacity.
We’ve already taken decisive steps to manage this demand, closing our doors to new customers, and limiting customers to one delivery slot every seven days. However, despite these measures, we can see that not all Smart Pass customers have been able to book a delivery.
As an Anytime Smart Pass member, we consider you to be one of our best customers, so we’ve set up a temporary priority queue to enable you to book a delivery slot each week.
How you will get access:
We have divided all paying Anytime Smart Pass members who joined before 2020 into a number of equal-sized, randomised groups. You will be placed in one of these groups.
At spaced intervals, we will give each group access to the priority queue, enabling them to quickly get in and choose a slot for their weekly delivery. We will do this by sending each group an email and text message between the hours of 9am and 5pm, starting tomorrow.
Once you get your email, you’ll have the rest of the day to place and check out your order. Please wait for your message, as you won’t be able to access the priority queue at other times.
Please be aware that there is still high demand for slots, and you may not see full availability for all time slots. But, because we can now prioritise the customers we let on to the website, and each customer can only have one slot, you can be confident that there are enough slots – and groceries – to go around.
Our developers continue to work on a better solution which will allow us to manage this in a simpler way but, for now, this fix at least helps us to prioritise you in the short-term. It makes access fair, and helps to keep traffic to our website at manageable levels, ensuring you the best possible shopping experience in the circumstances.
Please note: our usually all-knowing Customer Service team can’t set-up or change this temporary process, so they won’t be able to tell you which group you are in, or when you will get your email.
Thank you for your continued understanding and patience. We all understand the huge responsibility placed on us, and we are working tirelessly to help feed the nation at this challenging time.
Your Ocado team

Will be v glad to have a slot confirmed. I would have cancelled my Ocado subscription otherwise. As a customer who orders weekly and should also be screened, I was getting quite concerned what the next few months would be like.

Anyone had their priority access yet?

I received an email yesterday saying I’d been given priority access (I’m have a smart pass.) I went to the site, queued for 50 minutes and found no slots available. I have a shop coming in 11 days that I managed to get on Saturday by randomly checking the website at odd times.

I can’t imagine the volume of orders they’re trying to process now. From The Guardian:

‘Online grocery sales – which usually make up just 7% of the UK’s £200bn grocery market – picked up sharply, with one-fifth of households placing an online order, equal to an additional 1.2m online grocery orders over the four weeks.’

Those with the greatest need aren’t necessarily those who routinely use Ocado. I can probably survive without edamame pods, almond croissants and pecorino dip for a bit longer.

Milky77 · 02/04/2020 03:45

Why should Ocado get credit for taking thousands more orders than it can handle? Bad decision on their behalf

How does the government hand over a list of names? Have people on it said yes to this

Milky77 · 02/04/2020 07:55

Apparently it's by registering on the Gov website for people who want additional help

I’m totally confused. They wrote to say they were cancelling Reserved, but no start date on that.

They said go to site with priority as an anytime pass holder and book a slot - I tried, no slots.

They then honoured my next two Reserved slots, which was confusing. The last one comes onMonday

Now no slots for after that - totally confused!!

MarshaBradyo · 02/04/2020 08:01

Fair enough as long as they’re clear about the fact that the list goes to companies too

Milky77 · 02/04/2020 08:13

Noone has told us that it's clear. I asked the same question.

All food delivery companies are taking on extra orders because we’re being told to stay at home unless absolutely necessary. Thousands of people have been told to self isolate for their protection. Ocado, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Morrison’s, Asda etc have become part of the emergency response to this pandemic.

Onceuponatimethen · 02/04/2020 08:43

It’s the communication isn’t it Glowcat? Ocado need to be transparent about what is happening particularly where people have effectively paid in advance for delivery.

Onceuponatimethen · 02/04/2020 08:43

@Glowcat that should have been

Glowcat · 02/04/2020 08:50

Yes. I‘m sure it will improve with time.

Milky77 · 02/04/2020 09:45

Patting yourselves on the back in meantime yes Ocado I am talking about you is likely to go down as well as a bunch of lead balloons in the meantime though

I have just given up on them. I never got my text or follow up email and have never managed to get on to the site.

AMBE123 · 02/04/2020 09:55

The whole thing is, that if you have online delivery anyway, you go into this thinking ok, I don't need to panic buy, I'll just get my normal online delivery and maybe have to wait a few extra days for it. On my last delivery 3 weeks ago the driver said I was the only person on his round who had a normal amount of food and hadn't bought loads of loo roll. Now I wish I'd bought a decent size freezer, piled into the supermarket while they were still open all night and stocked up! 7 days since my email promising me an email to give me a slot for a weekly delivery, and nothing.

iVampire · 02/04/2020 10:00

They’ve taken my smart pass monthly payment, and I have now had a response (after 10 days) saying they have updated my customer record with info about vulnerability (I’m shield group, with govt letter) but they haven’t actually said if that means priority access, or if I need to do anything different to access the site,

I might try overnight tonight (when I expect queues might be shorter) to see if I can get on and book a slot

Onceuponatimethen · 02/04/2020 10:09

Everyone I know who uses Ocado is saying they were considering switching providers anyway due to the forthcoming m&s tie up and these poor comms while boasting about their performance is making everyone want to switch even more

Fredastaireatemyjamsandwich · 02/04/2020 10:17

They are all hiding behind the ‘only for vunerable’ shield. My Mum is not on the government list of categories, thank god, but she is extremely vunerable. Her shopping was only £50 but by god if I ever get another slot for her I feel like doubling that. That was a weekly shop, but with cleaners, washing powder etc, but l am inclined to over order, not knowing if she will have another delivery for another 3 weeks. She is horrified at the thought of stockpiling if others need stuff.

NotGenerationAlpha · 02/04/2020 10:25

I think the worst thing is them still taking our delivery pass payment when they can't even give us a shop a week. If they know they are only going to do the vulnerable over their normal paying customers, they should have the grace to actually stop taking our anytime pass payment! I'm so pissed off with them.

AMBE123 · 02/04/2020 10:36

Vampire, glad you have heard something and hope you get a slot very soon! Have you also registered via the GOV.UK website as having the NHS letter, just in case they go by that list?

artisanparsnips · 02/04/2020 10:41

@Fredastaireatemyjamsandwich This is exactly where I am at with my stepmother. She had a slot booked for next week, and I have made her buy loads of freezer food because I have no idea when she will get another one.

Does anyone know how you can get onto the vulnerable list just by being elderly. My stepmother is 81, and her memory is getting a bit shaky so she can't always remember why the Ocado app isn't working and thinks her phone is broken. But I assume she will need more than just me saying that.

In the meantime, my Smartpass weekly order did indeed turn up, on time and with only a very few poncey middle class items missing. But I can't change it to go to her...

artisanparsnips · 02/04/2020 10:42

@Onceuponatimethen That was what I was planning on doing; I switch between Waitrose and Ocado anyway. But can't get onto Waitrose at all, so am stuck with Ocado.

Lifesbetterwithwine · 02/04/2020 11:02

I’m still waiting for priority access - a week after receiving the initial email.... I check the website several times a day on the off chance it will let me in but no luck! I hope the slots are going to the elderly and vulnerable but I suspect it’s just a very badly run lottery.

happilybemused · 02/04/2020 11:03

No longer delivering bottled water as bulky and will free up more slots.

We can use the tap in the meantime.

BoreOfWhabylon · 02/04/2020 11:07

@artisanparsnips Unfortunately, you can't get onto the Government list just by being elderly or disabled Sad

Here's the list

AMBE123 · 02/04/2020 11:43

I saw something on the news the other day where the army were talking about helping to deliver PPE to hospitals. They said that 20% of delivery drivers were off sick or isolating. Maybe that has something to do with it. Plus I think people that are furloughed and have time on their hands, haven't being cleared to be able to take on other work to fill the gap Hmm
