What happens if you’re newly self employed?

This is hypothetical as at the moment, fortunately, I can still do a bit of work. But...

I’ve only been self employed since the end of January.

Is long enough to receive the self employed support from the government? How would I prove my yearly earnings when I haven’t been self employed for a year?

You don’t qualify I’m afraid. You have to have filed accounts for the tax year 18-19.

My partner had thr same for self employment when buying his first house. You need to have so many years proof of your finances.
The govenrment wants this for their decision on payments unfortunately.
My partner has been self employed now for 4 so he can but even then it will be only from June.
His friend is reciently self employed and said he is able to get £95 per week in the original benefits the government said. So maybe worth looking into that.

Thanks both.

I’ve (temporarily) lost three clients but we can still get by. We’re very fortunate really when you look at the bigger picture.

It does make me feel for those who recently started a new venture and are now suffering financially because of it.

It's a hard time.
My partner has had to cancel his jobs so may have lost those customers for good.
But you have to think of your health.
Good luck!
Hopefully this will be over soon and will be a bad dream by summer.
