Can’t meet with anyone?

So I read that you can meet up with someone as long as it’s not more than 2 and you stay 2m apart for a walk exercise etc, now I’ve read on another thread that’s not true and only people from your household but I have 4 kids so does that mean I’m not allowed out with all 4? So you can’t meet one friend and stay 2m apart? Can anyone clarify please

No socialising with anyone outside of your household. Just WhatsApp/Skype with friends for now. You can go out with your kids once a day for exercise.

Stay at home
Do not go out unless you need to get essentials or collect medicine.
Or if you need to go to work and cannot wfh.
You can go outside to exercise once a day.
Otherwise, stay at home.
It’s pretty clear!

You must have read wrong.

PumpkinP · 26/03/2020 23:38

I definitely read a 2 people rule, I don’t know if they’ve since changed that then.

You can go out with your kids ( once a day for exercise) They count as your household. You can't see your mates IRL.

PersonaNonGarter · 26/03/2020 23:40

No you cannot meet anyone.

minipie · 26/03/2020 23:43

I think it’s more that if you unavoidably do meet people, for example pass them while you are out for your daily walk, or you need an emergency plumber to come to the house, say, you should keep 2m apart.

You are allowed out once a day with members of your family.

PumpkinP · 26/03/2020 23:45

Ok thanks for clarifying. I read on another thread people advising the op who lived alone to meet with a friend for a walk and stay 2 m apart and others saying it’s not allowed

It's two people maximum from the same household.

You are NOT Allowed to meet up with people who do not live with you. If you encounter people outside during your chosen exercise period, you have to stay six feet apart.

But why can I go to the shops in my very rural small town, (Waitrose in my case) for up to 4 vulnerable people I'm shopping for, queue outside for 10 minutes, shop inside near others, use a trolley, use the conveyor belts, use the payment machines (suddenly can't think what they're called) etc, but not meet a friend in her garden and sit 3m away and have a chat with bugger all contact?

I'm not doing this before you all have a go at me, just asking about the logic.

  1. Stopping public gatherings

To make sure people are staying at home and apart from each other, the Government is also stopping all public gatherings of more than two people.

There are only exceptions to this rule for very limited purposes:

where the gathering is of a group of people who live together – this means that a parent can, for example, take their children to the shops if there is no option to leave them at home

where the gathering is essential for work purposes - but workers should try to minimise all meetings and other gatherings in the workplace

In addition, the Government is stopping social events, including weddings, baptisms and other religious ceremonies. This excludes funerals, which can be attended by immediate family.

Its all about minimising risk.

We all have to eat. To eat we need food, to get food we need to go to the shop (apart from those that have had success getting delivery slots). We can't just not eat.

We can however not deliberately meet up with people for a chinwag. So me mitigate risks where possible.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/03/2020 23:59

The actual legislation says

b) to take exercise either alone or with other members of their household;

Members plural. So yes, of course you can walk with your kids.

It isnt two people from.the same household. It is any amount of people from the same household.

Ok I’ve also read a thread where a woman knocks for her neighbour then stands back and they have a chat. Everyone said it was fine. I’m not planning on doing it but just wondering if I had misunderstood the rules.

Are you worried for your mental health op ?

Gingernaut · 27/03/2020 00:39

Look at the advice from the .gov.uk website instead of going round different threads and social media.
