Pleurisy & corona

Hi all, I'm struggling to find out if having had pleurisy several times in 3 years is going to make me more susceptible to corona/worse symptoms? It hurts to breathe quite often and I was told this was because of scarring on my lung because of the pleurisy.

Higher risk but not high risk, apparently. So more important than for Joe Bloggs down the street to socially isolate, but not into the 12 week mandated. At least that's what I'm told.

I have mild lung disease (lung function 76% of a normal person my age) and my risk is 'mildly increased risk' if I get coronavirus and my risk profile is categorised as the same as the rest of the population.

In your case I think its more about keeping your immunity and lungs strong as thats quite a lot to have gone through- there is some evidence vitamin D can help prevent respiratory infections. Eat well. Drink water. Exercise for good lung function. Assume you have had pneumonia jab?

'Strongly advised' to social distance was the advice for us. Before we all went into lockdown anyway!

I honestly don't know, butt.

Years ago I used to have lots of chest infections including pleurisy and pneumonia. I caught every bug that was going. Then I gave up smoking and it hasn't happened since, I still can't quite believe it.

Do you smoke? Sorry if I am being intrusive.

Lynda07 · 26/03/2020 23:08

If you are self isolating or as much as possible, you should be alright anyway.

buttcrackmcheese · 27/03/2020 07:19

Thanks all Smile no I'm not a smoker, never have been. But the pain when breathing never really went away when the pleurisy cleared up the first time. As a family we're into our second week of isolation due to symptoms in one of the kids. But DP works in a hospital so I was just wondering if we need to be more cautious.
