Child with Coronavirus symptoms

My child has corona virus symptoms. I'm online to 111 at the moment.
There a Facebook post going round saying that children who get taken to hospital aren't allowed to have a parent go with them, and are all by themselves? Please can someone confirm this. I'm absolutely petrified that it's true and if she has to go to hospital that she'll be alone. I understand about the spread and safety but I know how scared she'd be.

For what it's worth, we practised safe hand washing, social distancing and did everything we were meant to. She's not been in crowds, socialising or in shops and we've been so careful. We adhered to lockdown and ha e treated this seriously. Her dad and I are key workers (emergency services) and he's been to work (I'm home at moment) but neither of us have symptoms.

If I could just have my mind put at ease whilst I'm on hold for a nurse it'd help loads. Thanks xx

How old is she? Unless she is really poorly they will tell you all to self isolate at home. Have you done the symptom checker online?

My local hospital put out a notice about change in number of visitors allowed and it was 1 per patient except those on end of life. So children have 1 adult still. I'd be surprised if it wasn't the case across the UK.

My son started coughing from 11am this morning and has been complaining of a sore throat. He is 10.

I'm scared. I don't want to sleep.
I cannot find information about children with coronovirus only articles saying that they can have the virus without symptoms and be super spreaders.

111 online seems to be for adults aswell.
I have given him calpol and put vicks on his feet for the cough.

I dont know what the next steps are. Do I have to wait for it to get worse or will it even get worse?

Then will it spread from person to person around my house without knowing who is going to get it worse. I have 3 children.

This is so fucked up.

I'm hoping it's just a normal cough.
But I dont know what to do.

111 online is for kids over 5 @jobseeker19 so do use that. How is he now?

My 4 yo was/is symptomatic and has severe asthma.

Three days in I’m pretty sure it’s not CV but a standard upper respiratory infection.

But anyway, just treat him at home unless he needs to be in hospital. And in that case you can call 999. But hopefully it won’t come to any of that.

I found it confusing too. I had to use 111 phone because he’s only 4. The doctor assigned to us was absolutely brilliant and they called me the next day to check the meds were issued correctly. (His asthma is treated aggressively as the doc said we must avoid him needing hospital if at all possible).

How unwell are they? I think they're trying to get people to stay home where possible.

My 2 year old was seen by paramedics last night and had a fever of 39.5 after Calpol. They couldn't rule out Coronavirus but her tonsils were really swollen so believe it to be tonsillitis. Normally she would have been taken in for obs overnight and help with fluids, but the paramedic called the ward and they said it was probably safer for her to be home and monitored by us (hospital has multiple confirmed cases). Told us what to check and how, told us what meds to give and when and told us to prepare some sugar water to give regularly. If we had anymore problems we were to phone back again. Thankfully she was fine overnight

Oh and there was absolutely no mention of her going to hospital on her own. In fact we were debating whether my husband would go or me because I would have had to take my 4 month old with me as she's exclusively breastfed. The only thing that we were clear on, was that we wouldn't both be able to go

He is sleeping now and not coughing in his sleep. But I have heard him stirring.

I might put him in my bed so I can monitor him.

111 just says to self isolate but it's very generic. I'm going to have to wait until tomorrow to see how he is.

But the cough came on very suddenly which has me worried.

I'd definitely want a parent to be with a young child, if there's a parent fit enough. For a start, they can stop the child grabbing at the PPE of the staff member examining them... Certainly our trust still assumes a parent will be there.

If you look online at the nhs site it was saying to not phone unless you can’t manage it at home.

My sister panicked me by telling me this but surely a child would have to have someone with P R with them to sign consent etc.

I’ve seen posts on Facebook saying this is untrue. Apart from anything else wards don’t have the staff to stay with a child 1-2-1 constantly. So a parent would need to be there to look after them when they weren’t getting actual nursing care, observation, medication etc.

One parent CAN go in the ambulance with their child. Honestly.

Our local hospital has stated on FB this is not true, and that one parent will be with a child. They're not happy about people terrifying parents with these memes.

Our hospital also allows a parent,a birth partner or 1 relative EOL.

Thank you everyone. I've spoke to 111. They were great. So calm and professional. I called initial line and then put me through to CV nurse. She took all Details and told me that we'd be referred to an out of hours doctor to call back but it could take up to 6 hours. I asked about the child in ambulance alone rumour and she confirmed it wouldn't be case as they'd need parental signatures for treatment etc.
Doctor rang within half an hour and was also good. We've been managing her symptoms all day but mid afternoon just could not get her temperature down for hours and it crept up really quickly to 93.5 despite calpol and her breathing got quite laboured, which is why we decided to call.

By time doctor had called it had gone back down to 37 so they were happy for usual
Advise to manage at home And call if she got worse. They've told us to check on her through night every two hours for responsiveness and her temperature etc. We've got her in our bedroom so we can keep an eye on her and alarms been set for two hourly wake up call.

Person and I can honestly say this has me scared. Seeing my child Poorly with something so unpredictable is the worst thing ever. Thank you all for such quick responses. All those that are poorly and/ or have poorly kids, I hope you get better soon. Keep safe everyone!! Xx

My son has been unwell for nine days. He had a fever, cough, sore head and sore joints. His fever stayed high despite calpol. I stripped him off when his temperature was really high. I made him drink water really regularly and I also gave him ice lollies. We checked him during the night when he was particularly unwell. On the fifth and sixth day he was much better. On the 7th day everything came back. We called our go at this point and they said he may have a secondary bacterial infection and prescribed amoxicillin. He has really perked up today.

My heart goes out to all of you who’s children have symptoms I know I’d be a wreck

I think ds had it at the end of February, he was diagnosed with Glandular Fever. He had a sore throat, fever (soaking through his bed sheets each evening), painful joints in his arms. Painful legs that made him a bit wobbly. I now have symptoms and am on day 7 (mine have been more textbook). Dd1 has been complaining of a sore throat, dd2 has a new persistent cough and dh has a tight chest and sinus issues, the time period fits from him being ill to the rest of us now. He is currently fine!
