Police Force. How are you getting on?

I have absolute respect for our NHS staff who fully deserved a bit of live tonight. I also thought about the police who now have new legislation to work with to make sure that everyone's following the new rules. How are you getting on? I'm really glad you're there!

I’m wondering this too DH is in the last stage of Met recruitment and we’re wondering if there is a possibility he’ll be fast tracked as a new recruit to provide support.

I reported a RTC (pedestrian hit & hospitalised) to the police and they said it’s been closed until the traffic team have a chance to look into it, but due to Covid-19 the police as whole are swamped so it will take longer than usual. Bit concerned if CCTV will expire in this timeframe.

I'm guessing that's one of the reasons for limiting people's car use - less cars = less RTAs (and less hospital bound casualties). I wonder if non-Covid related crime figures have fallen with people staying at home.

Hanging in there!

The Met in particular are struggling with sickness - as to be expected in any organisation.

However, crime is down so it's just a balancing act for now. It's definitely not business as usual.

@QuacksInTheDark, unless he's been at Hendon for most of his training I doubt it. Plus he'll need to gain independent patrol status which takes several weeks.

Have people mostly been receptive if you've had to remind them of restrictions Joris? I heard some police yesterday near me having to be very firm with a group of lads who were congregating on the local playing field

God the police have a bloody hard job at the best of times, I don't know how they do it.

I’m actually as concerned about the police force as I am about medical staff.
They are exposed to the public all the time plus they have to approach people close up, they wouldn’t have proper protective equipment and it would be near enough impossible to wear masks. I sincerely hope they have access to a good supply of gloves and know how to use them correctly, the right hand sanitiser in plentiful supply and never ever touch their faces and must try and wash hands as often as possible. For a start, they share vehicles which must be contaminated, they use phones all the time, and cleaning such high use items in the correct way all the time is impossible. They are really exposed and the majority will become infected if they haven’t been already but I wish with all my heart they recover well. We need them more than ever. The service is already beyond stretched. If up to half go off sick in rotation, which is very likely they will, that we’re up the creek.

People where I am have been generally brilliant so no need to pull out the big guns yet 😂

QuacksInTheDark · 26/03/2020 22:59

Joris ah ok no, he’s waiting for vetting to start so no where near Hendon stage yet.
