A bit of a heads up if you shop with Tescos (might apply to others)

Just had a Tesco shop delivered, first thing, if you live in a flat, they won't carry it up the stairs anymore. They will get it to the stairs and then call you to collect it, to limit theirs (and yours) exposure.

Also they have a limit on the number of things you can buy, which was fine, but also is on loose fruit and veg, so we got 3 carrots, 3 parsnips and 3 bananas.

I didn't twig this when I checked the order yesterday. Just thought incase you are a larger family and do get loose veg, you might want to change to package

Thank you for the info. I usually shop with Tesco(or Aldi) but deliveries look impossible at the moment so DH did a big shop this morning which will prob be enough for at least a week.

Sobeyondthehills · 26/03/2020 19:18

I got very lucky with my delivery slot, I must admit.

Also no toilet roll and no dry cat food, so I am sleeping with one eye open till I can get hold of some

They aren't making it easy to go shopping infrequently... 3 bananas!!

Sobeyondthehills · 26/03/2020 19:24

This is true, but if I had twigged, then I would have gotten a pack of them and would have got at least 5

I had that with Sainsbury's for you but loose it's perfect item! So 3 onions......

jakeyboy1 · 26/03/2020 19:31

I'm cross they aren't prioritising people who have paid for delivery saver. I know someone will say they should prioritise NHS employees or disabled/elderly and I don't disagree but how would they prove that? They have delivery saver customers money already.

CatBatCat · 26/03/2020 19:38

Lidl has the same restriction in store. I tried to only shop for what was essential for me and leaving enough for everyone else so I picked up 6 individual pouches of cat food (x2 flavours, 3 of each) thinking it was following the policy but no, has to be only 3 of any 1 item. So I put all 6 back on the shelf and picked up 1 x24 multipack instead. Madness.

Drivemybluecar · 26/03/2020 19:38

I don’t get this. Three onions ? But I got a pack of onions and a pack of carrots today at Tesco. ???

Sobeyondthehills · 26/03/2020 19:42

@Drivemybluecar

That is exactly my point, I wasn't expecting it on loose fruit and veg, when I could buy 3 packs of carrots.

I assume its got to do with their systems and that they can't put the limit on a 90% of the store, or maybe its just easier to say its 3 on every item

Drivemybluecar · 26/03/2020 19:46

I wonder if it is done by store. My Tesco only didn’t have beans and pasta today. But had a full veg section and loads of meat. So maybe other Tesco’s don’t have the stocks others have so have been doing it accordingly ?

Mummyoflittledragon · 26/03/2020 19:48

I shop with Tesco. I agree this system is bonkers. You can buy 3 packs of 3/4 tins of tuna but only 3 individual tins.

pigsDOfly · 26/03/2020 19:48

Shopped in Tesco today also got a pack of carrots and a pack of potatoes loads more than 3 in each pack. Bananas were a 5 pack, I think there were 5 or 6 oranges in the pack I bought

The only things that were restricted to 3 were things like drinks and tinned fish.

Restricting vegetables like that is completely stupid. What earthy good is 3 carrots to anyone? It wouldn't even be enough for one meal for an average family.

Sounds like the people packing up the deliveries might have misunderstood the rules. There shouldn't be a different allowance for customers in the shops and customers having deliveries.

Sobeyondthehills · 26/03/2020 19:59

I have just checked online again and can't order any more than 3 items on anything

Today, our tesco were only allowing 2 types of meat. So you could have 2 packs of chicken breast, or a pack of chicken breasts and a pack of mince, or 2 packs of sausages etc but only 2 packs from the whole meat section. They really are beginning to make it so hard to avoid the shops.

pigsDOfly · 26/03/2020 21:57

Yeah, it does sound like they're trying to discourage people from using the delivery service.

Trouble is, for some people, going to the shops is not an option.
