Guidance around the '2 people' rule

Onemorefortheroad · 26/03/2020 15:37

I had seen someone on here saying that you can go a walk with a friend as there would only be the two of you and this is allowed as you can have up to two people meeting from different households...

I'm not suggesting I'm going to do it but that part of the guidance was a bit confusing! Probably sensible just to stay away from everyone out with household but can see why this might be tempting for those living alone 🤷🏻‍♀️

From my understanding this is more guidance for if you had an essential meeting or appointment etc. Please don't meet your friend it's not worth the risk

NewIdeasToday · 26/03/2020 15:39

You can’t meet people outside your own household in order to minimise chance of transmission of the virus.

wildthingsinthenight · 26/03/2020 15:40

No you can go for a walk with someone from your own household
You can't meet a friend for a walk.

Sausagesarnies · 26/03/2020 15:40

I was thinking this too. My mum is fit and healthy (early 50s) haven't seen her since monday and we were thinking it would be ok to walk the dog together while keeping distance as it would only be the 2 of us (not entering eachothers homes, hugging etc) we've decided not to go ahead though as it might be too much of a risk 🤷‍♀️

The guidance around exercise is that you can do it alone or with members of your household, so I'd say no to that.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 26/03/2020 15:48

You're not supposed to meet people who don't live in your household. The rules are very clear on this.

Sooverthemill · 26/03/2020 15:48

No meeting up with someone outside your household. So I can't go for a walk with my son who lives round the corner

Someone on another thread said they thought the 2 people restriction referred to e.g. you and supermarket/bank/post office cashier interacting. Made sense to me. I usually walk with a friend once a week - we've cancelled for the duration.

Onemorefortheroad · 26/03/2020 15:55

I wasn't suggesting that I was doing it... 🙄

I had seen this on another Corona thread and was sure that it wasn't the case that this was an option.

@thatgingergirl

I'm the same, no more weekly walks with family and friends at the moment.

I think it covers those who cannot go out on their own, e.g. those with physical or learning disabilities, going out with a PA or carer.

StealthPolarBear · 26/03/2020 16:14

Completely agree its confusing op, and I don't think most people have read that bit.
However as a pp said I suppose it covers handing over money in a shop, essential meetings etc (although how many of those would be in a public place?). Essential meetings, for as short a time as possible.
