Has your after school club frozen all payments?

Just curious to know what other after school clubs are doing. Ours are asking for 20% of payment so they can keep up with the salaries of their staff in full. However they're not incurring any costs, no food, no supplies so I don't think the 20% are fair. Also, the club manager is a money grabbing creep and I expect nothing decent from him.

All other after school activities have frozen all payments, which also makes me wonder if this is fair.

Thanks!

Both DD school club and DS nursery have asked us to pay in full for April if we are able to and then possibly 50% going forward until they open again.

LaCerbiatta · 26/03/2020 14:16

That's outrageous! How can they justify that?? The government are paying 80% of the salaries!

We've paid up to Easter anyway because they invoice each half term in advance. They've sent an email saying they are working out what to do next term, bear with them and please don't cancel the permanent place just for financial reasons, contact them to talk about it first.

DragonMamma · 26/03/2020 14:18

The 80% isn’t likely to come in for a while and they will still need to pay rent, utilities, insurance etc.

We are contracted to pay 50% for 4 weeks.

Looneytune253 · 26/03/2020 14:18

20% is more than reasonable surely? Won't you still be getting paid? Are u wanting to profit from this? The way I see it is if I have most of my income coming in why wouldn't I pay for small businesses etc to keep them afloat?

painintheholeSIL · 26/03/2020 14:19

In Ireland crèche/playschool workers will be fully paid by the government as long as the crèche isn't charging parents.

LaCerbiatta · 26/03/2020 14:20

The club is at the school so don't think there's any rent or utilities to pay.
And even if the 80% doesn't come now, what are they going to do afterwards? Refund the parents?

I would be more than happy to pay to keep it afloat, but I really don't think it's what's happening here. Maybe because I know the manager so well.....

I don’t think the government will keep to their promise. Any application can be rejected. It says it can.

But yes I think it takes the piss. I’ve still got to pay my dc school fees and the work they are sending home is pathetic and so fucking lazy, bits that’s another thread..

DeltaFlyer · 26/03/2020 14:23

It depends if the after school club is run by the school or an outside provider.
I worked at one that pays rent to the school for use of facilities and things like water and electric.

If you want to retain a place for when this is over you need to pay.

LaCerbiatta · 26/03/2020 14:26

Yes, of course I need to pay and I will. I just want to know how irate I should be about it :-D

at the moment we're still paying my childcare vouchers - which is big chunk of our monthly bill, but they are being banked for us to use when things return to normal

but doing it because it's a way of supporting a small business where we have always been really happy with the service and care provided

girlicorne · 26/03/2020 15:25

We had no guidance on this, payment for April was due this week, I emailed last week to ask the question but have had no response. I am happy to pay this month as I want a club for DS to go back to but we are very short on income so I don't want to pay if I don't have to. He hasn't had the sessions yet as we pay in advance so I don't think I'm being a CF. We are still paying full fees for DD's private school but I think this is standard.
